Has anyone done this-a split stay between Disney resorts and "They who shall not be named" down the road? We have never visited Universal together so are going to do a 1 day taster next time, but we have already thought if we like it we may think about a split stay-maybe 3 days Universal followed by 10 at Disney for next holiday, around 2020 (yes we do think 3 holidays in advance!!)
Has anyone done this? Is it a lot of messing about moving etc? And most importantly can Mickey smell Universal on you when you arrive?:rolleyes1

That's our exact plan starting tomorrow. Well we have a night at Disney on arrival because DME and I got a great rate lol! We did 2 and 7 last year but wanted more time this year. We are upgrading to dual APs and taking advantage of AP rates on both ends. Plus 2 more trips before the expire lol

ETA: it's not bad moving. Just pack your cases so things are separate for each stay. And take advantage of leaving things with bell services if necessary.

We are doing 5 days at Disney followed by 3 US days. We will Uber to get to the US hotel. We chose Disney first because the week is going to get busy and we wanted our least crowded days to be at Disney. We are staying onsite at US so we will have express pass.

Yes, we did this in 2014 and we had a great time! The trip included DH, our two DSs, and me, along with my parents. We flew to MCO, and took a Mears van from MCO to Universal and stayed in two family suites at Cabana Bay. We stayed in early May, and Cabana Bay had literally just opened. It was amazing! Very clean, food was very good, and the family suites were great! We did both parks at Universal over two days, and really enjoyed it. However, this was before the large Harry Potter expansion, so we are anxious to go back to see the new HP segments that weren't there when we went. We loved the butter beer, and the rides there were fun. However, we had never really experienced so many simulator style rides. The technology for those are amazing, but my folks, DH and I had to really pace ourselves because the simulator rides made us somewhat seasick. Of course, our boys had no problem with the simulator rides! However, the boys were young and timid enough that we didn't brave any of the roller coasters...another reason for going back again. :). My folks did the HP fly-on-a-broomstick-ride with us and they were DONE for the day. It was way too intense for them.

We then transferred to WDW with another Mears van (I would highly recommend them...they were punctual, professional, and had a van that fit all six of us and our luggage) and stayed in a 2 bedroom villa at OKW. I'm really glad we did Universal first and then Disney. While we enjoyed Universal and we definitely want to go back, their customer service and the overall experience is nothing like WDW. We stayed 4 days and had 3 days in the WDW parks. It was amazing to share WDW with my folks, who hadn't been since I was a kid. We loved the 2 bedroom villa set up at OKW, and the rides were way more to my parents' liking.

Whatever you decide, have a great time at US and WDW!

Yes, we did in in 2015 and will do it again this August. We are doing 5 nights in WDW and 3 in Uni. 3 nights is enough for us to see both parks (our main focus is WWOHP) and we will try the new waterpark as well. Transferring is super easy. We took a cab last time but will probably do uber this time as it's cheaper.

We are leaving the 18the to drive down and will spend the 19th and 20th at Universal, then move to POR through the 18th, when we will head back home. (We are driving). We wanted the free express passes for Universal and the early park entrance, so we decided to add a couple of days at the start of our trip and just stay there. We're really looking forward to it.

Our first trip to Orlando involved a total of 10 days in the wdw parks and 4 days at universal.

We wound up being tired of the 10 day park and yearned for more of the 4 day park. Only reason we dragged ourselves away and back to wdw was because we had reservations at Jambo and, more importantly, dinner reservations at Sanaa.

we've never stayed at Universal before but we always visit the parks for a couple of days while staying at, or near Disney. This year we're planning to spend 4 days at Royal Pacific and then 10 days split between AK and Poly. We can't wait. Staying at the Universal resort will be a huge change over driving back and forth and you get the express passes to boot.

We have. We did HRH(3 nights) then CR(6 nights). Staying on site at UR is wonderful. The FOTL is awesome. (We done many 1 day trips, too.) The only thing I would change is to do WDW first, then US. With the FOTL you don't need as many park hours, so you can have more time to relax around the wonderful pools.

We've done it several times. We've stayed at Portofino Bay, Royal Pacific and Hard Rock 2~3 nights and went to Disney for 5~8 nights depending on a trip length. We actually loved staying at any of those hotels to take advantage of early entree to WWoP and FOTL. It takes a lot less to tour the both parks because of these features and the fact that most of times, it is less crowded than WDW.

We hold AP to both parks. We stay at both properties every trip. We fly in and use ME to head to a Disney resort for 4, 5 nights and then use Lyft to move to a Universal resort for 2, 3 night and take Lyft to the airport to head home. Super easy and great trips. Universal is easier all the way around so it's a great way to wind down from the go-go at Disney. We don't take ME back to the airport even when at Disney so it we don't change anything about going home but for loosing RAC. I don't want to do it Universal first because we use ME from the airport, never to
