Split stay at same resort

We have a package booked at POP from 6/27-7/3 using the limited promotion of free quick service dining and 6 day park hoppers. I would like to add a room only night on 6/26 as we’re arriving in the afternoon and don’t need park tickets or the dining plan that day. Would it be better to call to add the night or do it myself online? I’m afraid if I try to call and do this I will get some new CM on the phone that will somehow erase my package. Should I just book a one night room only reservation online? Will I get 2 sets of magic bands? Would it be easy to get the 2 reservations linked to possibly be able to stay in the same room? Thanks!

I’ve booked split stays at the same resort and there has never been an issue. You will most likely have 2 reservation numbers, and you can make a request to stay in the same room, but that is not guaranteed. One time we were able to stay, another time we had to move, but it was not a big deal and the resort staff moved us. You can get 2 sets of bands, etc.

I've done this several times, and after one nightmare scenario with a phone CM trying to actually change our reservation and having us almost lose our free dining I do it all online. You can even request when you get there to stay in the same room, it doesn't always work, but they can usually accommodate it.

I agree with PP's, just book it online. Book the exact resort and room category you have for your package and, when you check-in, request to stay in the same room the entire time. You will be entitled to two sets of magic bands - you can either receive both of them and use them interchangeably or you can decline one set through online check-in.

Thanks everyone for your replies! I will book a room only tonight in the same category so no chance for it to get messed up.thx!!

After you book, call reservations and give them both confirmation numbers and ask them to make notes on both that they are a “continuing reservation.” That will improve but not guarantee your chances of staying in the same room. It’s to Disney’s advantage to keep you in the same room, so if they know ahead of time, then when rooms are being assigned (the week before you arrive) they’ll be better able to assign it that way.

I've done this and called to have them note the two different reservation numbers were a continuing reservation. I was able to stay in the same room but had to go to the front desk and check-in again on the second day (when we had added the first night as a room only).

I'm in a similar situation! Our Southwest flight got moved, so we are coming in a day earlier (7/6) but couldn't add the day at POP because we had Free Dining. We decided to book online and add a night at ASMo. Haven't stayed there, so it will be fun to just do one night and see a little of the resort.

I obviously wasn't worried about the room, but was curious about fastpass window. I'm hoping my full trip is open 60 days before the first night, even though that night wasn't part of our package.

I just had to deal with this. We originally were going to stay with family our first night and then move over to ASMo, but we decided just to stay at ASMo. I wasn't able to add a night online so I called and the CM took quite awhile to get it done, but she was able to get me a single night. I had to pay rack rate for the one night...not the great deal I had gotten for the two nights. When we checked in, I forgot to tell them it was a continuing resort stay. I just called them later in the day and let them know. We didn't have to move resorts. Our friends we were traveling with all had one continuous reservation. They were offered the gift card for no housekeeping the very first night. We weren't offered it until our 2nd night...so it would only be a $10 gift card so we didn't take it. I think our separate reservations messed up the ability to get the no housekeeping offer.

Thanks! I’m still confused about how magic bands will work. Will they mail 2 sets? How do I know which set my fastpasses will be on? If I decline a second set of magic bands will I be able to use the same set for other reservations?

Sorry I don’t know how to edit. Thx!

You should be able to order a MB for anyone whose name is listed on the reservation and linked to your MDE as Friends and Family, or the person who is listed as the primary guest should be able to, assuming they have an MDE account of their own. If you're on two reservations, you can order two MBs, one for each reservation, if you want them, or you can order one via one reservation number and decline the one for the other reservation number. It's like doing a split stay, but you're not moving to a different resort. Any MB that's linked to your name in MDE (even old ones) will work to open the room door, scan into the parks and for FPs, etc. so you can decide how many your want. Some people get different colors to coordinate with their outfits each day.
