Hi Everyone, we are doing a split stay in November due to high flight costs. Our first night we will be staying at Pop and then transferring to POR for the rest of our stay. I am thinking we will have to move our luggage ourselves, but I am not sure if you are allow to take it on the bus. If anyone has experience in this please let me know the best way to move our belongings as we will not have a vehicle on property.

Thanks in advance!

Not sure if this will help - but as far as luggage Disney provide luggage service so that when you get to the airport you just jump on the "Magical Express" and your luggage is transported to your room for you.

We have tended to take it with us on the bus since several times it takes a long time to get it to your room if they are deliverying it. One time when we came in late it wasn't delivered until the next morning. Meaning when you arrive you don't have any of your things to change or wash up.

Not really related to moving in the middle - but if this was any inclination of what to do - you might want to move the luggage yourself when you change rooms (again if you dont have a lot, etc...)

I don't think luggage is allowed on the bus. You can contact Bell Services to arrange to have your luggage transferred from POP to POR.

FYI - we usually take a small carry on with what we will need as soon as we get there so we don't have to worry about when our luggage arrives from ME.

Hope this helps!

Some clarification is in order here I think: Luggage is allowed on the DME bus to/from the airport. It is not allowed on the internal WDW buses.

For the OP's original question: Disney will move your luggage for you when you change resorts mid-trip. It won't arrive until the afternoon, so keep that in mind if there's anything you need during the day. We find it's easy to do a split stay. Just give your stuff to bell services in the morning, go off to a park for the day and when you're done touring, go to the new resort and check in. Once you have your new room, call and have your luggage delivered. :thumbsup2

Take your bags over to Luggage Assistence at Pop...don't call them to come to the room. That takes forever!!! Been there, done that. Luggage Assistence doesn't always work quite as quickly as Bell Services. So, plan accordingly. If there is anything you think you may need during the day, take it with you, in a tote bag. You can always rent a locker at the park. Otherwise, you may not be able to access your bags until very late in the afternoon!! Yes, I know they tell you that your bags will arrive at the new resort after 2pm, but in all the times I've done the transfer, my bags have never gotten to me before 5, and sometimes it's long after!!! I have been stuck with no bathing suit or a change of clothes in the hot, humid summer months!!!

This is how I make the resort change...
Pack up my bags upon waking. I keep a backpack with anything I may need that day. Then, I head to Bell Services or Luggage Assistence (depending on where I'm staying at)..I hand them my bags, telling them which resort they are headed to. Hand over $1 per bag. Then, I usually grab a bite to eat at the resort, or sometimes head to an EMH at a park and grab something there. I then head out of the park by 1ish and head to the new resort and get checked in. If I'm lucky, I can get into a room and I can drop off my backpack. Then, it's a change of clothes and off I go again.
When I return later in the day/evening, I call down to the luggage folks and tell them I would like my bags delivered..then hand off another $1 a bag when they are delivered.

We are switching from Pop to POR too:goodvibes but our trip is in August. We have 3 rooms (5 people). We plan on taking a cab over w/ our luggage and groceries. This will be our "down" day. I will be doing everyones laundry and we'll swim and hang out at the resort that day.

If it were me, and it was me a couple of years ago - I would just get a cab. It will cost under $20. You can move the luggage with you and check in all at once. If your room is not ready yet, stick it at luggage services at POR and they will bring it to you later. I had a friend that left it up to luggage services to move between resorts, things arrived late at night and the luggage was soaking wet. For me, it was worth the $20 the cab cost us.

We just got back from a split stay, we flew and used Disney transportation during our trip as we did not rent a car. This is what we did to get around and to handle our luggage:

Getting from airport to resort:
We used DME transportation from MCO to our resort. We also used their luggage delivery service as well (our flight arrived at MCO between 9 and 10 am and I believe our luggage arrived in our room around 3pm or so).

Getting from resort #1 to resort #2:
We checked our luggage with bell services at our 1st resort and requested them to transfer our luggage over to our 2nd resort. We checked out around 11ish and they told us that our luggage would arrive at our 2nd resort after 3pm. After we did that we headed to the parks for a while and then caught a bus over to our second resort. All we had to do was go over to bell services and grab our luggage when heading to our room.

Getting from resort back to airport:
We did airport check in at our resort so our bags were already checked. We just had our carry ons and we used DME again to go to the airport.

I agree! The price far outweighs the waiting for the luggage. We've done this twice. The first time, no problem. The second time - ugh. We didn't get back to the resort till late and really wanted to sleep. So the cabs are most definitely worth it IMO.:thumbsup2

If we didn't have a car I would take a taxi too, we have had multiple great experiences with transferring luggage, but one bad one.
