We are going to arrive on Sunday and stay until Sat. we are thinking 3 nights at each resort. I thought poly first but DH said AKL first. Anyone have an thoughts or info on which resort would be better first??? thanks..amy

Hi,
we're doing the same thing. We decided to go concierge at AKL and save that for last. From what I've read it is a great resort to relax in and there's a lot to do. We figured on checking into the Poly on Friday, staying for 4 nights and doing MK and Epcot while we're there.

Then move to AKL concierge for 5 nights and do AK and MGM and back to MK and Epcot if we choose.

Besides, I think the kids will go bonkers if we are at the World and they have to wait for days to go to the MK.

:) :)

AKL tends to be a bit more crowded on the weekends (its a great getaway type resort) so if that factors into where you stay - how crowded the resort is I mean, its something to consider. I would also look at see what the park hours are - it may be worth the convenience of the monorail on the weekend - lines get long waiting for buses after the parks close - MK and Epcot you wouldn't have to worry about as much staying on the monorail. Good luck!

We stayed at the AKL the first part of our trip and then transferred to POFQ. I would have liked it the other way around. We ended up leaving the parks early to go back to AKL and enjoy relaxing there. I would think that as you tire out toward the end of your trip you would appreciate the usage of time better by relaxing on the balcony watching the animals. My next trip will end with the AKL and the day before we leave will be spent mostly at the resort.

Thanks for the replies. I think it would be hard to wait to go to MK. I think I will try the poly first..thanks...amy

I would suggest the opposite but that is because we don’t like to leave the Polynesian. The AKL was nice to hang out at for a few days and visit AK nearby but our vacation felt like it started when we got to the Polynesian. My vote is for the AKL first and than you can relax at the Polynesian.

here is the trip report from our AKL Polynesian stay in 2002

Tikiman,,thanks...Is the Samoa building all smoking? I am also considering requestion Niue..We would like to be near the Volcano pool.. thanks...amy

Samoa is all smoking. Niue is good but needs some rehab and it is not scheduled till Sep 2003. Tokelau is a great location. It is right next to the quiet pool and only a minute walk over to the volcano pool. The rooms are larger and the views are great. You will also be closer to the TTC which you will use a lot. The GCH is very close also. Not that Niue would not be good but Tokelau may be better.

I like starting at the Polynesian. I love all the excitment that the Polynesian offers. I feel like I'm at the World when we get there. The MK is our favorite park and I can't imagine not going there first. I guess you could take the bus from AKL, but not quite the same as the monorail:D We liked going to the AKL after the Polynesian because it was such a great place to rest and hang out at after spending so much time doing the parks. Now I like both the resorts the same so it's not a let down leaving one for the other.

I would suggest the Poly first. Being on the monorail is nice if you want to visit MK and EPCOT. We always visit those parks first. Also, in my opinion Poly was a huge let down after AKL. We stayed at AKL and then moved to Poly Concierge (11/2001) - what a disappointment. AKL was beautiful and very relaxing, much nicer in our opinion. We had a very bad Poly experience though. I guess it depends on how you plan to spend your time.

My dd's and I are doing the same thing in Oct. I decided on Poly first so we could see the Electrical Water Parade (or whatever it's called) and do MK and Epcot first. It just seemed to me that starting so close to MK would be such a thrill to my girls! I was a little bit worried though about feeling let down when we get to AKL later in the week though. I suppose I'll have to get refillable mugs at each resort won't I?
