Split Resorts?

Hello,
I have never stayed onsite in Disney before and thought that on my next trip I would do this. Unfortunately money has to play a part...ah well. So TCD have advised that i could split my holiday between the first week in the Royal Plaza and the second between Coronado Springs/Caribbean/Port Orleans.

This makes it considerably cheaper. I wonder if anyone has any input on this idea. My concern is that by staying outside of the resort we the shuttle buses would run infrequently and finish early and it would make using the car a necessity. Basically the same people always drive and they want a bit of a break!

We prefer split stays as it gives the holiday a fresh start mid-way through

If you're concerned about staying outside of WDW, you could price up All Stars / Pop Century as they are the least expensive onsite resorts. If you did stay at two different WDW resorts without a car, Disney make it very easy to move resorts and will transport all the luggage for you whilst you're out in the parks!

I'm not sure whether you plan to hire a car wherever you stay (even if you don't need it to get to the parks) but, beware TCD (or any other operator) trying to 'force' you to take the rental car option by suggesting an off-site resort. They tend to charge a lot for the car insurances, making the overall cost not much different from other operators even though, initially, they sound a lot cheaper. I've heard reports of others having trouble declining the car insurance option with TCD as they insist it's a necessary part of the package. Basically, do some 'homework' and check costs for the whole package with various operators, with or without a car, depending on your requirements.
