Have arrived late night before, but only when staying at value resorts so cost wasn't as much of a concern. When staying at a deluxe, it is more of an issue with the cost of a night stay so much more.

If staying at a deluxe, do you think it is worth the trouble to do two separate reservations?

(Also, a room only reserv. may be without a discount?) The first reservation would be night one with a room only for the first night, arriving late. The second reservation would be with multiple nights with room, park tix, Dining plan, etc.

Is this complicated to do? Does it create problems with magic bands or automatically create two sets?

We had to do a split reservation last trip. You will get two sets of magic bands for the different reservations. If you plan to stay at the same resort, be sure to tell them when you check in that you have a split reservations or they will make you change rooms. If you are switching hotels, you can check out of one, tell them you're moving hotels and have your luggage sent over by the first hotel. We went to the park, and when we came back for our mid afternoon break, our luggage was waiting in the lobby of AKL. They checked us in and gave us our new rooms. They also added our second stay unto our original bands so that we did not have to switch them. Though you could if you wanted.

It was a seamless transition between the resorts for us.

We do this if we arrive late. First night we've stayed at Pop, then the next morning I prefer to get up early, and take cab with our luggage to new resort and check in early. I prefer to know my luggage and food is at the resort. And I've been lucky on some occasions our room has been ready. If not I check it at Bell Services.

It will create the opportunity for two sets of magicbands, but you can now decline one if you wish. (if you have MBs from previous trips you can decline both of them) And it doesn't automatically cause problems. Glitches can happen with ONE magicband. Perfectly seamless stays can happen with 12 sets active. If a glitch happens, get it fixed, move on. :)

We've done stays where we stay elsewhere the first night. We've done a stay where we stay at the same place despite a late arrival.

Honestly? The latter is so mcuh nicer.

It's easy to go the cheap way and think of it as "I'm paying $$$ just to sleep?" But if you think about it, paying for that first night gives you sleep, it gives you waking-up-at-YOUR-schedule, it gives you "I'm here and I don't have to move", it gives you being settled. You aren't "homeless", your bags don't have to be moved anywhere. You have the room from when you check in until when you might have checked in that next day to the next room...without having to move.

Unless the money means you absolutely cannot swing it, I like staying put more.

I like a split stay, and I've done one with 4 separate resorts (then Daytona Beach, then Universal!). But there's a difference between an intentional split to see different resorts and stay a couple/few nights, vs coming in to a cheaper place just for one night.

Thanks all. I guess the choice will be between an early morning flight and a late night flight where we land at one resort and stay there ( I do not want to have to move and hopefully don't have to switch rooms). The late night flight might add a few dollars but will add up to a half day in the parks (!!!)

We are doing a split stay because we decided to arrive a day earlier, rather then waste half our arrival day on travel. We have a package with free dining and tickets at CSR and have added a day onto the front end of our trip with a room only night at POP arriving late. We have 8 days/7 nights with 7 day tickets linked to our second ressie.

After reading several posts about split stays can someone tell me if I understand the process correctly?

We arrive late (9:30) we plan on doing online check in and heading straight to our room with a carry-on with our pjs, toiletries etc. Have MDE bring our luggage (since we are an hour behind I'm sure the adults will still be awake and hopefully the kids asleep by the time it arrives as I know it can take a little while). Get up in the morning, check out of POP, check into CSR online and have our luggage transferred by bell service. Spend our day at the park and then had back to CSR in the evening. All of our magic bands should be interchangeable on any given day but we won't be able to utilize park tickets until the day our CSR ressie starts.

We have a dinner reservation at HDDR on the first day we transfer to CSR as well, can they print my tickets for that at POP or will that have to be done at CSR or at the HDDR location?

That's my plan based on what I've read here about split stays. Any troubles with what I've mapped out in my head as being our most seamless way to utilize a full park day while switching resorts?

Even if you do Online Check In you may still have to stop by the Online Check In Desk. Not everyone who does Online Check In gets to Bypass The Front Desk. Nobody knows how they decide who gets to or not.

WDW advertises your luggage should be in your room 3-4 hours after arriving at your resort. So if you arrive at Pop by 10:30 your luggage might not be delivered until 1:30-2:30AM

That is what we do on "moving" day when we have a split stay. This way there's no wasted park time.

The Concierge Desk at Pop should be able to print them for you.

We always arrive late and tried saving $$ by staying at a value and then moving. DW and I did not like it, when we arrive we want to settle in and be ready for the next day without worrying about repacking some stuff and moving resorts. Plus; we lost sleep because it meant that we had to wake up earlier then we normally would to get everything going. Now we just stay at our original resort.

Be aware that when Disney transfers luggage between resorts it generally is not available until late afternoon. It is transferred after 3 PM

Lots of great advice. Thank you. I had no idea our luggage could arrive that late from DME. I guess we'll grab our suitcases ourselves then.

If we do online check in for CSR we should still be able to head straight to the park though even if we have to stop by check in at the resort before heading to our room, right? We won't have to physically go to CSR to check in before heading to the park that day from POP?

I would definetly not put the yellow tags on and pick your luggage up yourself.
Yes you can go to a park , without checking in first.

If your flight is coming in super late, how about staying at the Hyatt in the airport. Get a good night sleep and take magical express give your bags to bell services and head off for a great day.

Our flight lands 9:30 local time which is only 8:30 our time, so not super late. Considered the Hyatt but with the back to school discount POP is almost $100 cheaper for the night and we've never stayed there so we figured it would be fun to check out.
