<p>Has anyone who reads this board been to Splendid China or The Holy Land? I sure would appreciate hearing your comments. How long would you schedule for the visit? Would you do it again? I heard that Splendid China is a great camera oppurtunity. Many great "photo ops". China is soooo close to WDW that I would think it easy to get to for a few hours while the "mouse" is sleeping. Thanks for any words.<p><MARQUEE><font size=+2 color=red <marquee> ºoº...We are going to DisneyWorld in December...ºoº</MARQUEE><p><p><center>

Splendid China......my honest opinion???? Don't waste your time.

We visited Splendid China back in May 2003. We maybe saw 10 other guests the whole time were were there.

The "park" looks run down. Perhaps maybe 10 years ago this place might have been something to see, but not now. There are water ways that run through the back part of the displays, but the water was all sluggy, and not even moving.

The displays are a bunch of minatures, some of them were not maintained too well. The great wall of China is maybe 3 feet high and you can't get near it. Some of the displays had audio, but they weren't always working.

I would have thought I would have seen more floral displays, but nope....hardly any color.

They do offer an evening show, acrobats, but we did not stick around for it.

There isn't much for kids to do there. Nothing hands on to keep them occupied. Honestly I think this "park" is geared towards an older crowd that is interested in the history of China.

There is a cafeteria style restaurant out front...didn't try the food. They also have a few shops, some not open while we were there.

To some it up....Splendid China was not so splendid.
I think I summed up our visit as this....It would be more fun to light a 20 dollar bill on fire and watch it burn.

We enjoyed our visit to the HolyLand Experience, shortly after it first opened. There's more open now. It takes at least a half day to see it all. We'd go back. HTH.

I think if you a) have decent working knowledge of China or b) can get a private tour, Splendid China can be an interesteing hour or two's entertainment. Your photographs will truly come out looking as if you have actually been to China, (as long as there are no real people in the picture to ruin the perspective). The evening show draws more guests, but tebookie is correct about there being very few guests during the day.

Hi!

We went to Splendid China in 2002 - and it was practically deserted! Because of that, it seemed that all of the "live" entertainment that was advertised in the brochure was not being presented, except for the nightly show (which was pretty good, if you like that sort of thing).

I had emailed and phoned the place before we arrived to make sure that we were going on a day when there was live entertainment (specifically the tiger show), so needless to say was very unhappy to find otherwise when we got there

The park grounds were pretty spread out, so they offer a golf cart tour (for an additional fee!), but we decided to walk, just renting a stroller for our five year old. She was in it most of the time -- one, because it was hot, and two, because she was bored to death! LOL Some of the miniatures were very interesting, like the Great Wall or the huge Buddha and the Stone Forest, but some of the other ones just looked like unimpressive little things in the unkempt grass. There was a speaker at some of the sites to get an audio description, but it just repeated what was already on the signs.

We did eat at the restaurant, because it was included with the ticket price. It was standard Chinese take-out fare.

All in all, we thought it was a missed opportunity for the park owners, because it could be a really enchanting, educational and enthralling place, if done properly. Instead, it is stagnant and boring and not worth the time or money...

Here's a trip report on the Mysterious Kingdom of the Orient night show. It's from a few years ago...

People have been reporting that Splendid China is becoming run-down and messy in the exhibit area. I have not visited the exhibits in a while, but I did not see any examples of this at the Mysterious Kingdom of the Orient show. Held nightly at 6:00 (except for Mondays), this is an excellent show to watch if you dealt with the long lines at the theme parks all day.

The show takes place in the Golden Peacock Theater, which was hot and stuffy when I visited. The theater was also half-full. However, these things did not take away from the quality of the performance. The show is a mix of various Chinese performers, which change from time to time. The dragon dance and martial arts demonstrations can be seen. An archer with a heavy bow and arrow shoots at targets from around the stage. A pair playing Chinese instruments ended their set of traditional Chinese music with a rendition of “O Suzanna.”

Some of the performances show how many people can be piled on top of each other and still do their trick. For example, one group set one man as the base, placed a young girl on top of him, and another young girl was on top upside-down and shooting arrows with a bow held by her feet. Another performer tossed around large Frisbee-looking objects made from sticks. The performers are quite entertaining and many people “oohed” and “aahhed.”

A one-day ticket to Splendid China includes admission to the performance. You can also buy a separate ticket to the Mysterious Kingdom of the Orient show. The ticket price includes a free dinner after the show at the Seven Flavors Restaurant. There is a senior discount, but you do not get the free dinner with any discounted admission. The dinner may be an incentive for people to see the show, but I found the food pretty vile!

My opinion of Splendid China is much the same. It's obvious that it USED to be quite an attraction. But it has not been maintained and the elements have taken their toll - it's run down. We ate lunch there - ugh. I can't recommend it.
