Splash pad closed

On April 8, they shut down the whole Meadow pool and splash for an electrical problem somewhere in the pool - electrical contractors were swarming the place. We left on April 12 and it seems they never reopened it. When we were there, the front desk told us we could use the Wilderness Lodge pool and it has a great splash pad. Might be worth asking about it.

Oh man! We left today. I wish I would’ve known this sooner! We actually joked about asking the front desk to go over there. We should’ve asked!

Lol, i took my daughter to mother daughter swim class, i was the only dad  . She was maybe 9 months old, and as soon as she was in the water she took a nap. After that she hated the water, thus the just throw them in theory with life vest thing and supervision of course. Now shes 9 and a so so swimmer, but she likes the water.
He likes the water but he likes to be able to move and he can’t do that in our big pool. Lately we’ve been putting out his little pool and he spends the entire time climbing in and out of it lol

I also have had a pool for a long time. The younger the better. Our YMCA has an infant class. They learn how to roll on their back and get to the edge.

That’s what I’ve been seeing is teaching them to turn over for breathing. Dh thinks we should wait until 18 months or 2. I’m not so sure. It’s summer now so it’s HOT here and I need the pool lol

my youngest daughter started at 6 months in a mommy & me class and has loved the water since. in fact she got so good at the class that just before she turned 4 they moved her to the 5 year old no parent class. she never want to be on swim team but she loves the water to this day as the mother of some of my grandkids. ps from what I saw in all those classes it was the 18 to 2 year olds starting that had the most trouble and hardest time in the classes

He used to love the water. We would swim almost every day but then he learned to walk and now he hates it. He just wants to run around outside of the pool. I mean I get it. He’s basically immobile in the pool so it’s not fun for him to be held or sit in a floatie. Maybe I’ll try the chest/arm floatie on him and see how he does

as long as you are close that will allow him to move on his own. the girls of said daughter loved theirs and one still uses it. do not know if they still sell but do not get just arm wings as most kids can not get head out of water with those if arms are up

I was planning to get the one where it goes around the chest. He may hate it but I feel like it’s worth a try. Obviously I want him to learn to swim eventually but he’s still pretty little

that is the one. my grandgirls loved it. just watched an older child struggle and had to be pulled out because he could not get his head out of water with just the arm bands when his hands were above his head. very scary

I just looked and they say recommended weight is 30-50 pounds so we might have to wait. He’s only 21 lb

look for a life jacket one. they used to be the ones with collar as those are the infant ones not sure if those will help. been years but I have had some success with one of these

My son (and me) were like that when we were little too. I understand.

Do what you are comfortable with and what he seems to enjoy. This should be fun for everyone.

I’m actually planning to put him in survival swimming lessons to see if it’ll help him. We also have a pool so it’s probably a good idea. Dh isn’t sure about it yet

If you are looking at the Infant Self Rescue swim classes you absolutely should do it. That is the one where they throw the kids in fully clothed and they will come up and float on their back and breathe. I did it with both my kids from the time they were 6 months old because their sitter had a pool in her backyard. It was absolutely the best thing we ever did. They are so confident in the water and always have been since those classes. In addition to them learning to float to breath they will also learn to roll over and swim between two people or 1 person and a wall, my girls LOVED that when they were toddlers. They'd swim back and forth all day.

Right now it’s a money thing. We just went to wdw and have another trip planned for September so Dh doesn’t want to spend the money on lessons. I told him I’d give it a month and see if Ds gets over this not wanting to swim thing. Did the ISR not make you nervous?

Nervous about what?

I thought they were great tbh. One thing I like about them is that they don't make any crazy claims, they tell you up front that nobody is drown proof and these lessons are not meant to replace supervision. They make parents take a test about all the pool safety stuff including self closing gaits, etc. The lessons are meant as a last line of defense.

My kids were excellent swimmers because of those lessons. My oldest wanted to go down the big slide at our local pool but she was too short, the lifeguards said she could go down it if she passed a swim test and she passed it at 3 years old. We never ended up having any incidents of them falling in by accident so I don't know if they would have saved themselves or not, but I never regretted those lessons because of how comfortable and skilled they were in the water afterwards.

Not trying to sell you on the lessons, I don't work for them or anything lol, just my 2 cents as a fellow parent!

Has anyone actually seen them work on the slide, or is it just " under construction" to keep the kids off of it. Just wondering.

Haha I get it. I’m nervous about the whole process. The idea of him being submerged scares me but I know it’s necessary. I’m also worried if he hates it he won’t want to swim again

It could have been a covid closure thing also. Lots of water parks i went to last summer had slides closed off. We went to amusment parks with water parks in them, like hersey. The pools were open, and the splash pad stuff but the slides were closed off. Why , i have no clue. But it sure made the kido mad.

That is what I assumed, just based on the fact that there is no work being done. Usually Disney is pretty quick to get things fixed. I was really hoping it would be open for our stay next week.

So. They have removed the warning about the slide and splash pad being closed. Can anyone confirm? This would be great, as we will be down next week.
