Splash Mtn axed from PM EMH

I wonder if it's a safety/reliability thing. It was out of action at least once most days we went past it this year. The last time we went past in July the fall was bone dry which suggests it had been off for some time that day.

Maybe it's just too old to run from 9am to 1am anymore.

Possible

But the freakin' Tiki Room as a substitute? seriously? :lmao:

I cant think that I have ever ridden splash during PM EMH.. i guess I'm not up for getting a soaking at night when i have no chance of drying off in the sun.

Still, the Tiki room as an alternative :confused3:scratchin

Of all the rides in all the parks this is the one we get stuck on most, last year a long breakdown while we were on it, this year one long stop just as we were boarding, another short one while on. We just expect it now

Doesn't make a massive difference to us, even when onsite we avoid the EMH, this last trip didn't do one.

same. We've never done an AM nor a PM EMH :)

:goodvibes

Since this year was our first onsite, we love evening EMH. It was brilliant in the height of July crowds and heat to stay with eldest daughter until 1-2am while the others went back to the room.

I'd much rather shop and swim in the middle of the day then go out all night.

I agree, we've been experiencing breakdowns almost ever ride on SM for years now - but we still love it :cool1:

We are different in our touring approach however, in that we plan around EMH and use them all, so we tend to do morning EMH at one park, leave at noon and hop to the evening EMH park and this is quite effective for us.

Oh well, it is what it is, but they have taken a lot away from the EMH (as well as cutting an hour off of them altogether in January) over the last couple of years and it's starting to make the appeal dip a little

I like to get up early, I think latest we woke this last trip was 7:30am, into parks for opening til mid afternoon then back for a swim, evening meal then bed.
It also depends on childrens age, we used to do evenings in parks before last year, having a 3 year old with you changes things slightly:rotfl:

I remember first EMH night we did, MK, so busy they ran out of wrist bands in no time, couldn't believe it because everything was walk on in the morning, everyone waited for EMH, put me off them so avoided when possible since.

This is already being discussed on the main boards. For the first time ever, never thought I would see the day, I am wondering what it is that makes it worth paying to stay onsite ....

http://www.wdwmagic.com/other/extra-magic-hours/news/21aug2012-magic-kingdom-evening-extra-magic-hours-attraction-line-up-to-change-next-week.htm

and they're also shortening the PM EMH hours in 2013 to two hours instead of 3...

a number of years ago, they stopped doing EMHs entirely....and that was the year i went offsite...

when they brought back EMH we came back to onsite...
it's not a question of whether i use it or not, it's that i want it to be an option....as you said, there has to be a reason to pay the much higher prices disney charges for their resorts...

the truth is, we're usually too tired to take advantage of EMH, but i want the option...

DD did the MK EMH this past friday night and she said it was spectacular!!
she stayed until the close at 2 AM and emailed some pictures from a very gorgeous MK at night...(using the new MK wifi!!)...

As well as child ages affecting how everyone does parks there is also dining habits, upto recent years we would have a QS meal then stay in parks late, last 4-5 years we prefer to do parks in the morning then relax with a TS meal in the evening. Maybe we will change again this next trip when its just the 2 of us.

I agree, everyone's tactics really do differ. With young kids we find a sit down lunch is the only guaranteed meal, preferably early like 11:30 if possible.

After that the QS comes in handy as we just eat when we're hungry which might be 2 of us at 7pm and the other 2 at 10pm.

I have to admit I was sceptical for a long time about staying onsite and the DDP etc. Now I love it and with EMH think it's worth the premium hotel price.

That is a very valid point - party size as well as the ages of those with you are a huge consideration. With DD and I it's been so easy to do as we please without considering anyone else's interests or worrying about little ones fading early.

We prefer the QSDP because it caters well for what how we structure our day; that said, this may change as DD gets older (or as our group of 2 becomes 3 next time).

We did notice how different it would be with a family with young children when we met up with our friends last year and spent 2 park days with them. Although their children are not tiny, (4 and 7 at the time) we found we took things much slower and for the first time I could see the merit of them having TS meals every day for the sake of structure; I have always understood the theory but it really sunk in as reality watching (with admiration I must admit) at how they worked around considering the various interests and stamina levels. And that, as you say, has a huge effect on how you tour the parks.

Beth, you're right on the money: I want the option. The fact that I happen to use it is almost irrelevant - it's an onsite priviledge (and one of the few left).

Oh and one more cut from 18 months back was that they stopped the evening EMH at AK. That was disappointing, but they did at least add an extra day of morning EMH so there was some effort to compensate (albeit what I consider an unfair trade off giving one hour for the previous 3 :rotfl:)

Awww man Im gutted about this! Going in October is hard enough with the shorter hours but to then not have Splash as an option when doing EMH at Magic kingdom takes the "MICKEY" :rotfl: I love riding Splash in the dark,Its such a great view and a different feel then doing it in the light....................

What next BTM will go down too! and the Tiki as a substitute is just :lmao: ridiculous its hard enough getting people in there now.(I actually like the show it reminds me of my childhood and so i enforce it on my boys) it does not mean that i want to do it more then once in a trip though.

Having never stayed onsite before, I cant really male a valid comment. However, coming from someone who will stay onsite for the first time in october, DBF and I have made sure that we make good use of EMHs so that we get "our moneys worth" :rotfl:

The plan is to try amd hit both AM and PM EMHs, especially the evening. I cant wait to see MK and Epcot at midnight/1am! xxx
