I know SM isn't scheduled for rehab anytime soon, but I have read a few posts that suggest SM is in a bit of disarray. There's a rip in the canvas behind the big boat scene at the end, some of the animatronics don't move, in parts you can't hear the music, the logs stopping during the ride, a terrible odor of mildew, and one (sort of bizarre) criticism that the queue has been sullied by people placing an array of multiple colors of chewing gum on the wall.

We were there in October of 2004, and we didn't notice any problems. Didn't see the rip, the only animatronic that wasn't working was the jumping fish, we always heard the music, the logs constantly moved, the ride smelled damp but what do you expect?, and we used the FP line so we were moving fast enough that we didn't notice gum.

My question is this: have you seen these problems? If so, when were you there? Do you think SM needs to go down for a rehab soon?

Thanks! Looking forward to varied opinions and reports. :teeth:

I saw a few problems...Where the little boy and girl bunny are standing talking about Brer Rabbit, the boy was missing. In the part where Brer Rabbit pops up on the fence to the left side of the log, he didn't show up. When you first enter the laughing place and the water criss crosses in front of you, it didn't. Those were the main things I noticed. I didn't see the rip or notice any other non-functioning animatronics. I walked through the line rather quickly, so I didn't even see the gum. There was a water bottle in one of the outside parts, but that could have happened that morning.

We were there in Sept 2004 & the ride was on & off closed the whole day. DD was so bummed! I got concerned about riding it since they kept closing it! Not sure what was wrong (no one would tell us, the generic technical difficulties is all we found out) but I hope it is corrected for our next trip in 2006!!!

I noticed a few of those things when we were there over Christmas. But, that certainly didn't stop us from riding it twice!! I just love the Laughing Place!!

I was also there in September 2004 and they kept closing it for repairs and never really said what was wrong with it. I also was very reluctant to ride after seeing all the problems while we were there, plus the last time I was down was in May 2002 and at that point the logs had stopped and people were all but hanging in mid air over the drop and it was shut down the rest of the time we were there. I was wondering if maybe this was a ride that could use a good rehab myself. :confused3

I don't think WDW newbies (like myself) would notice anything amiss. I was there in June 05 and rode Splash for the first (and second) time then. Never noticed anything out of order within the ride and never even saw the gum. Most of the animatronic problems must not be noticeable if you didn't know what they were supposed to do in the first place, I guess. I loved the ride! It was my 3rd favorite behind BTMRR and Mickey's Philharmagic in the MK.

went on splash in jan. 2005 and loved it. i am not usually one who looks very hard for things that are wrong though. so all of those things are probably still wrong. doesnt matter to me, loved it.

We saw the gum in Oct 2004...yucky. But I remember reading somewhere her on the DIS that that was taken care..like another poster said, I am a newboe so I never noticed any of the other stuff..but the gum was pretty gross..

Looked OK to me sept 2004 but then it was my first time too. Going again in 6 weeks. Hope it will be OK cos it is one of our favorite rides.

We were there a few weeks ago. The rip in the canvas is still there, and SM seemed to break down quite a bit during our trip. We were on it when it broke down, and waited almost 45 minutes right before you go over slippin' falls for a CM to walk us down. Still love SM though :0

Wow, I think my sister would have flipped out lol. We have yet to convince her to go on it in October, even though she did ride it when she was younger. I think it would delight her to no end to find the ride closed when we got there. :p

We were just at WDW - SM was closed the whole day on the 17th. On the other days, certain characters were missing and the ride stopped on a couple of occasions.

We went this past June. I guess I never noticed the rip in the canvas, cause we're singing along--if no one else is in the boat with us :) Both boy and girl bunny were there hopping along talking about Brer Rabbit. The water that splashes from place to place was working, I got some of it as we hit a turn--so I think it was off--not hitting quite where it was supposed to end up at.
But we love SM so dearly that it wouldn't matter :)
