Splash Mountain

Splash is by FAR my favorite WDW ride. It is the first thing that comes to mind when I think of Disney World. I just love everything about it....the music, the characters, the story and of course the drops. I always ride it as much as possible every trip. Heck, my username is dedicated to it!

It is seriously just so well done and has stood the test of time. My mom and I have always loved it and we couldn't wait to share it with my niece and then with my husband, who had never been on it despite visiting Disney 3 times. We always comment about the little bunny sweeping and how tired she must be. We are those adults who play along and sing the lyrics and take great joy in becoming children again. It's all wonderful and I totally understand the excitement walking the queue.

My dd's and I have never done SM but we want to. We are going to be there in Dec. and I'm worried about getting wet. Of course if it is super cold are we out of luck? How wet do you get on the ride?

My connection with Splash Mountain is on a much personal level. Way back when I was in college, my mother and I had a major falling out. I won't get into details but I ended up having to wait to pick up a person going back to college so I decided to get in a movie. That movie was Song of the South (so you can kind of tell how old I am by seeing the movie in a real theatre). I sat and cried through most of it but in the end, I realized that everyone does have a laughing place. A place where they can go to get away from things. It might be physical or it could be mental - it doesn't matter. As long as we find a laughing place within ourselves, life can't be all that bad, can it? That's what I love about this attraction - it's an escape from reality for a good long ten minutes.

Splash Mountain is fantastic for so many reasons, but one of my favorites is because it's such a long ride with so much to see and so much anticipation! Two of my favorite WDW memories occurred there.

First, during my 2010 trip, I went with DH and his family (11 siblings total) and the first night we ran through the MK like kids, buzzing from one ride to the next. We happened to time our ride on Splash Mountain perfectly and peaked just as Wishes was going strong. Seeing those fireworks from the top of Splash Mountain was magnificent.

During my March 2011 trip we went with my family and and me, DH, my brother and his girlfriend decided to do a quick run on Splash Mountain because there was virtually no line. Mind you, it had been drizzling a bit, but that didn't scare us off. Since much of the ride takes place inside, we didn't realize until we reached the final descent that the drizzle had turned into a torrential monsoon. When our boat reached the crest of the hill we all saw some of the hardest rain in the world pounding down and knew that we were about to get more drenched than you would likely get if you road Splash Mountain from opening until closing. A few expletives later (it was an all adult boat), we were careening down the hill laughing our heads off. Then after the plummet, we sat in the inevitable line just to get back inside. The only bummer is that our picture was "washed away" because of the amount of rain blocking the camera lens!

Great thread! This is by far my favorite ride in all of WDW! My absolute favorite part is the smaller drop in the dark. I don't know what it is about that part, but it really gives me such appreciation for all of the small moments that make a vacation at WDW so wonderful. :goodvibes

What is your favorite part of this amazing ride?

I can tell you what is NOT my favorite part and that would be getting stuck, in your log, at the bottom of the BIG conveyor belt due to technical difficulties for 15+ minutes while the 2 vultures above are laughing and saying the "laughing place" words over and over and over :lmao:!!!

My favorite part of the queue is when you are lucky enough to get stopped under one of the turbo air conditioner vents in August! :thumbsup2

We must have been in the same car, lol. I had the same experience and as I looked up at the others ahead of us, I was glad we weren't stuck on the incline. I was really tired of the vultures by the time we got going again and glad to go over the "dreaded drop". It sort of took all the excitement and anticipation out of going over the big drop though after being stuck so long we were just glad to get going again.

LOL!! Yah, I was about ready to climb out and run out the emergency exit door. I could hear those dang birds in my head for hours! Good times.

I just got stuck at the bottom of the conveyor belt last month!!! My favorite ride in the world. And I'm passing it onto my kids. They know the song by heart. The 5 year old usually quotes the lines from the audio a few times a day! It is just pure fun...

DD and I got to ride Splash a few times in a row by ourselves in the log on her 10th birthday this last May. We closed the ride that night. :goodvibes

It's such a great memory...for both of us. :wizard:

Aww, that sounds FUN! My kids and I loooved Splash Mtn :) We rode twice on our first day at MK. My favorite part of the "ride" is when you emerge for the drop and see the castle glittering in the distance. Beautiful! I wish I could freeze time for a minute and soak it up.

I do love Brer Rabbit and all of the animatronics, though. The whole ride is exceptionally well done. I used to have the Uncle Remus book as a child so they bring back some warm, fuzzy memories.

I can't wait until it's time for us to go back and ride again!

You might have warm weather in December (we did in '09!) so it may not even be an issue! But they do turn down, or even off, the water cannons when the weather is colder so you don't get as wet. If it is an extremely cold day, which happened a couple of days on our December trip, I'd skip it. But if it's just a little chilly, go for it! You can always watch the flumes come down to see how much water is actually being sprayed onto the guests.

My favorite part is ducking at the end so the people behind me get a double dose.

I love, love, love Splash Mountain, and it is truly my favorite! The animatronics amaze me. They are so well done and detailed. This is Disney at its finest. The entire setting with the story and music are so charming and engaging. I love the songs, and I've been on that ride so many times that I sing along with them. (with my now teen-aged DS looking at me sideways like I'm a little nutty - only at Disney!!).

I also love Splash at night and have experienced the fireworks from that mountain view. It fills be up with such a feeling of overwhemling happiness, I can't even describe it. We've had several occasions at night where we've been able to ride it over and over. It's a special ride in our family and we have made wonderful memories there. :goodvibes

One of our favorite rides from our trip a few days ago! We just got back, and my children wanted to ride this time after time. I loved it too - it is a nice break from standing and LOVE the animatronics involved - not just the drop or otherwise. A real exciting ride for us!
