I love splash mountain and think the timing of this announcement is pandering to a PC world. Have they indicated any timing on this project? With the dramatic decline in revenue and associated cancelation/reduction in capital expenditure, I can’t see this happening anytime soon.

Just hoping they do a good job with the retheme and not a Journey into Imagination retheme.
I think the timing is bad. It looks like this is a knee jerk, PC move. Reading the Disney announcement, they have been working on this for over a year.
While I'll miss the music, PaTF has some great music and could work well.
I wonder when they'll start?
With revenue down, I can't imagine it will be soon. Maybe after Tron opens, or after the 50th?
I love the optics of doing it now. Disney is showing where they stand and they’re doing at the right time. I agree about doing a good job with the retheme, though. So, the jury is out as to how well it will be done

Well to be fair, I'm not sure there are many people under 35-ish who are aware of Song of the South (even if they've never seen it). It always seemed odd that there was a ride based on IP that nobody under a certain age has seen.

This is an interesting sentiment. I am 35, I've never seen Song of the South, but have always enjoyed the song Zip-A-Dee-Do-Dah. I assumed when I was younger that the characters for the ride were specifically created for that ride, of course I learned that wasn't true later, in documentaries I think. My daughter's first movie she saw in theaters was the Princess and the Frog (And it's still her favorite Princess movie), and she loves Splash Mountain, and she loved the song Zip-A-Dee-Do-Dah also. She is 13. She would have never known Song of the South was a thing, or ever even considered the ride was tied to that movie if it wasn't being discussed so heavily. Now she doesn't understand what all the noise is about with it, because I can't explain it well either, since I've also never seen the movie... I get the gist of the issue though.

All that said... although the theme doesn't really seem to fit into Frontierland, I am sure it is going to be a beautiful ride with wonderful songs, and the exact same ride otherwise. We'll see I guess.

Beyond upset about this. Hopefully they don't start going politically correct on all rides, as many won't survive. Hope all of you who are happy about this are not too attached to Peter Pan. Or Pirates. The list of supposedly offensive rides goes on and on.

There is no ride in all of Disney that I am so attached to that I would protest its replacement if a group who has historically been oppressed and is currently underrepresented in all facets of society expresses that it is a painful reminder of past suffering and symbol of ongoing discrimination. None.

What you call politically correct, I call compassionate, empathetic, and humane.

Several waterfall locations in Louisiana including Clark Creek which is about twenty miles outside of New Orleans.

Actually, that is in MS (approx. 50 miles no. of Baton Rouge). LA does have a very few small non spectacular falls but I never could generate much excitement (and yes, so. LA is home) when there are so many other beautiful falls to see.

Change comes all the time, this won't be the last that a "classic" is rethemed or completely demolished and replaced.

I love the song “Zip a dee do da” and the cute critters. I have to admit when I read about the change, my eyes rolled so far back it’ll take going down the plunge for them to right themselves. 😆 So I guess I’m saying this is crazy. I’m in my 40’s & have never seen the movie being referenced as the reason Disney is changing a fun, cute ride. And I’m fair certain most people have not either, nor knew it even existed.

Disagree, my friend.

What I mean by Disney is....old school Disney in the sense that Walt was in the business of storytelling. The fine details. The Imagineering. Tower of Terror is storytelling at it's finest.

If they come for Dumbo, I will chain myself to the ride, and I'm not joking.
I kind of agree ToT is out of place, though I know people love it. But it certainly doesn’t get classic ranking from me. I mean, it opened in 94.
