Splash Mountain to get restrains?

As I mention every time I talk about rumors buzzing on the Internet regarding the Walt Disney World Resorts, they are just that. Rumors. The Walt Disney World Resorts is a large attraction and it becomes subject of many rumors due to speculation, corporate leaks or just want guests want to see happen at the parks and resorts.
The latest rumor I have come across is the changing of the log boats used in the popular warm weather ride, Splash Mountain. It is rumored that the Magic Kingdom Park will be getting new logs sometime between 2010 and 2011. This time the logs will have lap restraints. Could this be true? Will being restrained take away from the free fall feeling you get when you first go over the cliff?
As usual we will just have to wait and see what happens. I will update as more information comes my way.
Recently, the Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls at Islands of Adventure had lap restraints installed into the ride’s boats. This water attraction has the steepest log flumes in North America and is taller than Splash Mountain.

Probably true to prevent the stupid people that get killed after they get off the boat in the middle of the ride. These people (or should I say their survivors) sued Disney for all it's worth because of their relatives stupidity. The world needs more common sense and fewer lawyers!

It's possible but I doubt it. The main reason Dudley go restraints is probably because of the airtime the hill after the main drop sometimes brings, not because of the main drop itself (by the way, I hope the restraints don't ruin the drop). Splash doesn't have a hill like Dudley after the drop making restraints unnecessary like the majority of other flume and chute-the-chute rides.

I for one would love this. I only rode Splash Mountain once and did not feel safe. I have done the Jurassic Park Ride at Islands of Adventures/ Universal Studios Hollywood on a number of occasions and loved it even though I think the drop is longer and steeper. The difference for me are the lap restraints. I would love to try Splash Mountain again if they installed the restraints.

Personally see no reason for restraints. Been on Splash many dozens of times with no problem whatsoever.
I'm thinking like KYMickey--all being done for the occasional idiot who tries to stand up during the ride, or get out of the log before it's time to safely do so.

Splash Mountain does not require any restraints. I think the move would be silly...and constricting.

There is a big difference in 'air time' in Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls and Splash. IMO it doesn't need restraints, but if it keeps the ride running, then I guess there's nothing anyone can do!

I was terrified riding Splash. I hate, hate, hate, drops!! Spin me- I can take that but drop me no way! I am such a chicken but I possibly could be convinced to try Splash again if they could strap me in- but then again maybe there aren't enough restraints!! LOL

If they do install the wait times will only get worse. You would have to wait for the folks exiting to become unrestrained, get out, you get in and engage the restraint, have it checked by a CM and then take off. The line is already bad enough on crowded hot days. I can only imagine how much worse this will make it.

Also, I wonder if this would limit the seats to 2 per. Right now you can squeeze 3 in them, with restraints that might make it only 2 - longer lines!

And for the record, I don't think the ride needs them anyway.

Maybe adding restraints will allow smaller guests to ride this attraction. I always thought that it was like of sad that the mountain was so cool inside but so many smaller guests were missing it.

Mmm, would restraints make it more difficult for the ladies to make a guest appearance on flash mountain?. I would think that a shoulder harness would stop that, but not a lap belt. Just thinking out loud..........

Hmm, well I would think restraints would be more negative than positive. They sound pretty silly to me too. I never feel like im going to fly off or anything and I bet it would take longer for people to enter/exit the logs.

I never even new people got hurt on the ride standing up or anything while going down the hill... I don't think restraints would help that anyways. Depends which kinda, as long as they couldn't take them off I guess it would be better. Still, sounds like alot of trouble.

How would that tell anyone anything? In the first post, it says they wouldn't be installed until 2010-2011. And Cast Members are among the last to know.
