Splash Mountain to become Princess and the Frog ride

I love how you're not allowed to *not* like this decision - like it's so terrible that people love this ride.

You're not allowed to care about something that someone else may like. That's a great mindframe. Everything must be tossed aside unless it's fresh and new, and you're a fool for disagreeing.
Of course....its the attitude that you can have an opinion...just as long as you agree with me

But attractions don't have to be based on movies at all. Many parks fans grow to love the original ideas and songs just as much as those from movies. It really doesn't matter if the movie falls to obscurity. I still say they should turn it around, make an animated film called Spalsh Mountain, tell the story of ride using a more modern sensibility and soem great Aftican American voice actors, update the ride internals as needed, and then you have an instant IP connection.

It's probably far cheaper and quicker to re-theme the rides and sell a movie and IP they already have. I don't think they could have a script and full movie ready to go by Oct. 1, 2021, but a Princess and the Frog ride - heck yeah!

Princess and Frog has tons of water too. New Orleans is covered by swamp.

It’s in critter country in DL, so they could also go with Pocahontas there. In WDW it’s in Frontierland, so they could go with Davy Crockett. That’s if you want to match the lands.

My preference is still Moana.

This isn't a great move in my opinion. It can work in DL because of adacency to New Orleans Sqquare, but how does The Princess and The Frog fit into Fronteirland? It doesn't. I prefer my idea to reclaim the characters from Spash Mountain with an updated cartoon based on the old folktales that could modernize the story without losing the heart of it. This is not being done for the right reasons and is a bow to the pressure of a select few. I am all for giving Tiana a ride - I enjoy that movie - but she should have something original. They're basically doing it because there is already a riverboat in it. I don't even know what to think about this one.
Song of the South took place in Georgia. The American Frontier does not include Georgia. Neither does it include New Orleans. So I don't see a difference in either setting being included in Frontierland.

(Edit: And if it wasn't clear, my conclusion is you can't make an argument PATF doesn't fit b/c technically SOTS doesn't fit. And Disney imagineers, just like they did with SOTS, will have PATF fit perfectly. Perhaps they will even improve on Frontierland because of it...and maybe even Liberty Square as someone below suggested turning the Diamond Horseshoe into Tiana's!)

How do people deal with real adversity in life if this is the kind of thing that emotionally devastates them?

There’s a pandemic, record unemployment, continued social injustice and ... this is what people are hung up about? Life will move on and be OK.

I love Splash in its current form. But nothing lasts forever, and that’s fine. I’m excited for a new experience!

I wouldn't call it emotionally devastating - it's just a confluence of disappointment and head scratching as to why and how it works. Thematically it's a probvlem at MK - and no I don't like a lot of the other areas where they have broken the theming too much so adding another isn't helpful. Other concerns are that Tiana gets a hand-me-down instead of a great new ride - though I guess if Elsa did what hope does any Princess have? I just think it's a dumb move.

Zip-a-dee-doo-dah better stick around though - it's so great regardless of its origins.

I was literally just telling a co-worker how Splash Mountain is my favorite ride in all the world. Rhrn I leaned over and clicked on my FB feed and saw the announcement.

I froze.

At first I was WTH??? My favorite ride. Gone! How could they?? Its an icon! Its magical! Its its...And then I took a breath and said. Yes. Its time. Lets do this.

Looking forward to new adventures and new memories. Ive got plenty of old ones to look back on.

As mentioned in another post - the Imagineers thought of that. The folktales don't really take place anywhere so they adjusted the music and such to fit each area respectively - Jazz for DL and twangy for MK. This was considered.

It’s a classic ride to a lot of people. No one wants to see their ride going away or changing. I still miss Back to the Future at Universal.

And they could certainly do the same for the Princess and the Frog music. :)

When we were there last my kids were likely the only ones on the ride who had seen the film and knew where the characters were from. They also love Tiana so I'm sure whenever it is we are able to return they'll enjoy that too. I'll miss hearing "How Do You Do?" for sure though. But Princess and the Frog has some really great songs that I would hope to hear a few on the ride. And Disney will love it because they can sell more merch.

Ultimately I would have preferred them to leave Splash alone and give Tiana her own freshly built attraction somewhere else. But, this is what's happening so it is what it is.
