Splash Mountain Selfishness

We all know WDW is for families/couples/friends having great times together, but I have one secret selfish desire thats been burning in me for years.

I want to wait until the very very end of an e-ride night, an EMH, or even normal hours, ensure that Splashdown Photo is still selling photos, and try to commandeer a whole Splash Mountain log for myself. Then, having made the best possible pose possible on the big drop, I will proceed to buy the photo, have it blown up poster size and hang it up somewhere in my house. This will be my last trip to the World for several years, and I have dreamed of doing this since first riding Splash.

Of course, I would never insist or demand my own log, I would merely request it, as I would not want any families to have to wait. However, it will be so late and empty by then, they could hopefully wait 10 seconds for the next boat.

My only problem is the timeframe in which I will be at WDW: Mid-July. However, E-Ride Nights, EMH, parades, fireworks, and everything else COULD lead to this small window opening for me. I am planning to stay 7 nights, so I will have many opportunities to try this, but at least I have an excuse to ride Splash Mountain over and over again. ;)

Now, assuming it is very late at night and the crowds have dwindled down significantly to the point where Splash is a walk on. How accomodating would Disney be to my (admittedly) selfish request? Would Splashdown Photo even be open? Could I pick up the photos that morning?

Sorry if I am dragging on, but I want to get the logistics out by July. I know this is very very selfish of me, but I will make it up to family in other aspects of the trip. Its just that the dream of going down Splash alon, front row center in the dead of night just thrills me to no end.

I have a picture of myself on Splash Mountain all by myself. I got it during an e-ticket night a few years ago. I happened to have my refillable mug on me, so I held it like I was drinking a cup of coffee, put my arm over the back of the log, and was just relaxing. The cast members at Splashdown thought it was hysterical! I walked up in the line, and there was no one directly in front of me, and no one directly behind me. A couple logs went off in front of me, and a couple behind me without anyone in them. This was in mid-September, when the crowds are relatively low.

In July, that might be harder to do, even in the late hours of a e-ticket night if they have them. If they can accomodate you, they probably would, but if there are people behind you, I think they would put people in the log with you.

I would look at it like a room request. If it is granted wonderful but if it isn't didn't you have a great time anyway?

Don't know that there is anything you can plan for in advance.
Good luck and I hope it happens.

We went to an E-Ride night in early August '03 and our family had a log to ourself. We're a family of 5, but we saw logs leaving with only 2 people in it. Splashdown photo was indeed open. I think this is a doable request. Good luck and have fun :D

We have a Splash Mountain photo from a number of years ago with just the two of us in it. We rode rides during one of the nighttime parades and were surprised to find how empty it was.

Good luck with your request.

My hubby and oldest DD got their own log one morning, on an EE day. We got to MK about 20 minutes before Frontierland opened (not part of EE, so not open yet) and headed through Adventureland to use the "back way" to SplM and BTMRR. Hubby and DD went straight to SplM, got on the first log of the day, had it all to themselves, got a FREE picture, and got to go through the exit of BTMRR with a CM and ride on any car they wanted.

Other DD (who does not like SplM) and I were just getting off BTMRR, and at first, when I saw hubby and DD waiting for us I thought something horrible had happened - a family member had died or something! But DD's smile was ear to ear, so I felt reassured. Then, they hop on the back of the ride, and we watch them go! I was so confused at that point, LOL! I should have shouted "Hey, we're with them!"

Anyways, that was all DD would talk about for the rest of or trip (and beyond  ) and she wants to do it as a whole family this year.

I don't think it's selfish at all! Try the end of the night, or during a parade. Actually, one night in Feb, DBF and I went on Mission Space and we had the whole capsule to ourselves. It's his favorite ride so he was psyched!!!

It was raining and the park was empty.

I think this is definately "do-able". Just use all your good manners and your charm with the CM's and tell them how much this would me to you, and if at all possible they will try to accomadate your request. If it does happen be sure to share the photo with all of us, okay?

Good Luck and tons of pixie dust headed your way!!!

DH and I have a picture in one of the Splash Mountain logs alone too. It is from a E-ticket night in September. I am sure if it is not busy they will let you do it!

I've never been on a Splash log alone before, but I wonder if it's as creepy as being the only ones in a set of three mexico or pirates boats!

Never been by myself, but when I planned to buy the photos at Splash and Test Track, I requested that our family be the only ones in the picture. I don't quite have the nerve to do it at ToT, but wouldn't that be cool?

I think you have pretty good odds on an E-night. We got one last May (and it was Memorial Day, so it wasn't empty by any means!). It is our favorite Splash picture!!! My fiance keeps saying we'll have to try and get another one when we go in august! But seriously, since they send plenty of empty logs through, why couldn't you get one to yourself! Good Luck!!!!:D

Thanks so much to all for the support and reassurance. It seems this request may not be as far out as I first thought, especially if coordinated with E-nights, parades, etc.

This picture is just a random one pulled off the net and really clarifies things for me. I thought there were more rows and that they were longer. With only four, fairly small rows and plenty of empty logs on the circuit, I don't see how I can't get at least one opportunity to try this. I will simply ask nicely and hope. But like I said, there is no way I would ever be upset or angry at CMs or other families if they want (or have) to ride in my log.

What are some good "poses" for the drop? Based on the photo above, I would say the boy in the front row has the right idea, though I would open my eyes. I want this photo to be once in a lifetime, with my arms raised, head up, eyes and mouth open. For once I don't want both hands on the bar, eyes closed, and head down.

Our arms are up like that in our solo picture and we are smiling. It did take about 4 trys to get it right though! The first time I could not put both arms up-too chicken:) The next time my arm was blocking DH's face. The next time his eyes were closed. The 4th time just right:)

What are the Splashdown Photo buying options? I can't recall it from my last visit, nor can I find any internet info. Is there only one photo size available for purchase, or are there different sizes available?

I'd say your chances are pretty good. We went in August last year and arrived at the MK about 5 minutes after it opened. We went straight to Splash Mountain and walked right on. When our ride was over, there was nobody in line so the CM asked us if we wanted to ride again. So I would say to give it a shot first thing in the morning.

By the way, this was the regular opening - not EMH.

We had Splash Mtn to ourselves during a rain storm last Oct. I mean completely to ourselves. There was 1 other log w/ 2 people in it. The CM's said we could stay on as long as we wanted!!!
