Splash Mountain ?'s

I was wondering...

How big is the drop? My family (myself excluded of course) are not big coaster fans. They loved Space Mtn and BTMR, but they don't have drops. They have done the Log Flume ride at Dorney Park in PA if anyone is familiar with that one.

How wet do you get?

Thanks for your input. I would love to go on this, but don't want to end up with a mutiny on my hands if I get them into something with a huge drop.

The drop really isn't all that big. It depends on where you are sitting as to how wet you get. I always get wetter on the right side of the boat. There is a waterfall that splashes on that side.

The drop is not to bad at all, my wife does not like that free fall feeling that you get even on a Farris Wheel but she likes splash mountain. If folks in your group about the BIG splash they see in the commercials or in person before riding they are water canons that really don't get you wet, there are for effect.

My 6 year old would not go on untill I tiold her she could wear a rain poncho and now she can not wait to go.

Be forewarned. If there are big (heavy) people in your group depending wear they sit it can effect the amount of the splash and where it ends up.

I don't like drops. Personally I think this one is so-so. I wish it wasn't there. However, I still do it because it is a great ride, and the drop is managable for those of us that can't stand drops.

It took me a long time to get the courage to ride this one..I dont like coasters and drops at all! But DH told me I would love the inside of the ride if I could get over the drop. I finally gave in and loved the ride. The drop is a big one (I think) but I just close my eyes and its over in a second. There are a few smaller drops in the ride to get you ready but you know when you are coming to the big one. The few seconds of the drop is so worth it to see the rest of the ride.

How wet you get depends on where you are sitting I think. I was on the right side by the waterfall at the end and got wet there. I found in the back row on the left side I didnt get too wet..but usually get some water regardless where you are.

Hello, fellow PSU alum (1990 grad here).

I agree with other posters. The ride is well worth the drop at the end. For first timers, the drop may make you nervous enough that you don't enjoy the ride, but once you know when to expect it, it's okay. The ride is 11 minutes long, and for the 1 second that you drop, I think it can be tolerated.

I think you get wettest when you sit in the front. The little dips into deeper water causes the front to sink a little and causes water to come up over the front of the boat and into your face. Even that is manageable, and unless it's cold, is not a problem (there's a bathroom outside the ride's exit, so you can duck in there for a paper towel).

Other than the front, you may get a few drops on you, but nothing too significant.

I'm a big chicken, but my kids talked me into going on the ride. Just at the top of the big drop my husband pointed out how beautiful the view of the castle was, I looked at the castle and the drop was over before I realized what was happening. It wasn't bad at all! But I think it was easier for me since I was looking at the castle and not concentrating on how worried I was.

I'm a big roller coaster chicken and this drop isn't too bad. I really wish they didn't have it, because the rest of the ride is so awesome. If this drop was in a regular roller coaster, it would be considered a tame ride, so it really isn't that bad. I don't do this ride alot, but I'll go on it if it isn't too cold out, the line isn't long, and everything else is perfect...lol.

Let us know if you end up going on it and how the family enjoyed it.

This is actually one of my favorite rides. As others have said the ride is about more than just the one drop towards the end. It is well worth it. Just try not to think about the drop and enjoy the rest of the ride. It's a lot of fun!

I am a huge chicken. I do not do Rock n Roll Rollercoaster at MGM or Tower of Terror, because I don't like the speed or drops.

But to me, Splash is a fantastic ride. The total theming is great. Yes, there is a good chance you will get a little wet, but I have never been "Kali River Rapid" soaked by Splash Mountain.

I enjoy the ride and as you go up for what you know is the "big" drop, I love checking out the incredible view...look straight into the park...not down. The drop itself is quick and not too bad. I close my eyes and scream. Then laugh.

I do not like drops at all. I especially hate when other rides have that slow click click ride to the top of the drop. Splash is inside and it's dark so it's not like other log flumes. I was nervous on the ride but the big drop was not that bad. I loved Splash and I'll miss riding it this trip. I advise you to try it but use Fast Pass so you're not freaking out waiting on line LOL!

If I was forced to choose...Splash would have to be my favorite ride in all of WDW (I said if I was forced!! ) I'm not afraid of rollercoasters so this may be easy for me to say...but I think that all the detail and the length of the ride (not counting the few seconds it takes to drop) is so worth any fear you may have. There is so much to look at throughout the ride and I never would have thought all that is inside, IS inside, when looking from the outside. Did you get that? Long story short...You must ride!! Have fun!

I don't know when you're going, but just to let you know, we rode it several times in Aug. and Sept. and the waterfall was not on at all - don't know why, or when it'll be back on. Normally that is the wettest side (still not too bad), but without it, we found the front left to be the wet side. The back isn't bad at all.

Splash Mountain is my favorite fide. as a matter of fact, when i call disney, i sometimes look forward to being on hold so that i can listen for the song...

but, i love roller coasters. we look forward to the drop. i used to think that you only got wet by sitting in the front. but the last few times that we have gone, it didn't matter where i sat and i still got wet. i think that it depends on the water level at the bottom of the drop as to how wet you get. there have been times where i only got a few drops on me, and then there were times where i was completely soaked! and it didn't matter where i went.

Praise2him: i think that maybe it was on the particular day that you went, because everytime that i have gone, i have gotten soaked. we went in august too.

as the previous poster said, it is an 11 minute ride. (and a very good story i might add.....totally impressed dh!). there are some little "teaser" drops throughout the ride....3 lifts and 5 drops. the front gets more wet than the rear and the left side is dryer than the right. the end drop is 50ft...which looks high if you are looking at it from land...while in the boat, it doesn't look that high. when we went this past Aug., we were actually hoping to get a little wet....warm day. now, because we were hoping to get a little wet, of course we didn't! (and we were in toward the back half of the boat!) i would definately try splash mtn. and see what u think for yourself. it can't be bad if you only need to be 40 inches to ride it. i believe it's posted on this board somewhere that if you tuck your chin to your chest, it's not bad. don't remember where i saw it, but i did. and of course, you could always close you eyes! ps---my ds (5 1/2 yo absolutely loved this ride!!!!) good luck!!

I must be the only one here who avoids this ride like the plague because of the drop. But hey, I'm the biggest chicken out there so you're probably better off going w/the majority on this one.

I limit myself to rides in Fantasyland (except the ones that make me dizzy.) However, I could ride BTMRR 100 times.

Thanks to all for the wonderful replies. I think we will try it. We are going in August, so getting wet will probably be a welcome treat. As for the drop, it doesn't sound too bad. I'll just tell the family to look for the castle as we reach the top, and maybe they won't notice !

I am a real coward and I love Splash - though I do still hold my breath and shut my eyes as we drop.

I find I get less wet now my twin DS's are taller than me! They usually sit at the front and when we first went to WDW they were only 6 and the splash went straight over the heads, they stayed dry, and I got soaked in the seat behind.

Now they are 14 and taller than me, they keep me a bit drier and they get the water.

For me the two wettest parts, however, are not the last drop but the waterfall if you get stuck by it and the beginning of the ride if you get caught by another boat on its way down the last drop.

Still love this ride though.

just be sure to sit toward front then....we went in aug. and WANTED to get a bit wet, but, we were in the last seat, and got NOTHIN'!!!! if you don't want to get soaked, sit in middle...but, definately the front to get wet. btw....signs approaching this ride say "you may get wet".....not you will get wet......so, it's not like the river rapids at AK where you will get wet....it's just a chance!! enjoy it....it was a nice story/ride!
