Hello all,

Taking a shot in the dark here and hoping someone can help me.
My wife and I are taking our first trip to Disneyland from 10/5 - 10/9, and we just noticed that Splash Mountain is going to be down for refurb starting 10/3.

Is there any way of finding out the extent of the refurb to know if there is any chance at all of it opening back up while we're there. Just curious if it could be a very short-term closing for minimal work or if we're kidding ourselves. I have heard that it isn't quite as good as the WDW version, but it's our favorite ride there!

Thank you all in advance.

I think I saw it listed as being closed until 11/5. I'm a little bummed that it will be closed during my trip since my daughter is finally tall enough, but it was looking pretty rough when I was on it last December so it could use a little maintenance.

The refurb calendar has it down beginning 10/3 and lasting through all of October sadly. Unless there's a complete change of plans by Disney I don't think it will be open during your time there. Sorry! :(

Refurb is supposed to last through 11/3, opening back up on Fri, 11/4. Sorry you will miss it! We rode it in May and it was definitely in need of a refurb. While it is disappointing it will be down, I thought much of the magic of the ride was lost with dark scenes and turned off animatronics.

Thank you all for the insight! Bummer that it will be closed, but I guess that leaves us a reason to return soon!

My first day in the park was supposed to be 10/3 and then we saw the refurb notice and added a day to our tickets so we could go in to the park Sunday evening (10/2) and get a couple of rides in! But yes, it's definitely incentive for you and your wife to come back again. And luckily there's plenty else to do so hopefully you won't miss it too much. Have a great trip!

Well, it really needed the refurb, so try to think of it positively. If it had remained open, you would have seen it in a state of disrepair with many non-working elements. Hopefully they will address all the issues on the refurb.

OUr 1st day was going to be Oct. 3rd. We are now going on the afternoon of the 2nd....

Yeah, we were just there, and it was disappointing. That refurb is VERY needed. So many scenes were dark. I was really surprised, considering it was down for MONTHS last year (when I missed it on my solo trip in March). What the heck, Disney?

We just got back and so much of the ride was dark... actually made it kind of spooky. It obviously needs the refurb though

I did the exact same thing. I get into LAX at noon. Going to check into the hotel. Hit It's Tough to Be a Bug at DCA since it is closing 10/3 as well, then straight to Splash Mountain. I have heard so many negative comments about the state of the attraction that it has raised a morbid curiosity that I must see for myself...

Since a main part of the refurb is drying out the boats, flume and sets, and do repair work while they are dry, very little chance of needing less than a month and re-opening early.

Agreed on the bummer of it-we start our trip on 10/3 as well and we cant move it up and we wont have another shot at it until WDW in a year. I'm glad its getting a face life but I wish they hadn't choose to do it during the busy fall break season.

Here is an interesting news story from today...

>>Halloween season is also refurbishment season at Disneyland<<

But if you look at Disney and how "they" think. Halloween Time focuses on certain events and attractions, and allows them to spend some time on other things not being promoted.

Due to changes in the schedules and promotions, the Old School refurb plans have gone away, and times that they can do it are more limited. Mid December through January is very busy, not just for Christmas, but other Holidays and the NAMM show.

So there is a February - Early March window, late April thru May and then the September thru mid-December as the main periods where they feel they can do lengthy refurbs.

But Disney still needs to do things outside those windows. Expect some major refurbs once Star Wars Land opens.

But one issue, park capacity. The Fire Marshall bases the daily limit on what areas and attractions are open. If an area is closed or fenced off, the allowed attendance is lowered to prevent over-crowding.
