Splash Mountain - People getting out of Logs

Is it just me, or has the average IQ of the human race started to drop in the last few years. I am thinking that the mountains are looking better and better each time I have to spend time with a large group of people.

I almost forgot about another incident I saw at Magic Kingdom last Thursday (Funy how every incidence I saw was at MK last Thursday!!). Anyway you know the chain ropes they use to mark out the queue lines? Well when the staff form a line using these ropes, they make up the line and change it depending on how busy the queue is. If it is getting busy they change the rope formation to create more turns and lines etc etc. So what do people go and do when they walk through these lines? Rather than walking through the line as they are supposed to; they go and remove a rope link to create a short cut to the back of the line. All because they can't be bothered to walk a few extra yards. This happened at Philharmagic as I was walking through the rope line just inside the door. A man with his child removed a rope link to take a short cut. Then they couldn't attach it again (the link is magnetic!! very complicated to work out!!) thus leaving the rope lying on the floor. As I watched this unfold, unbeliveably some one else done the same thing just in front of me!! Because the first rope was now lying on the floor everyone coming in was using the newly created gap. Therefore the queue very quickly ended up outside wheras it should have been inside. The ropes are there for a important purpose and should only be used by the staff. They are not there for idiots to play with, move or rearrange.

Another think I noticed (again at Mk last Thursday) was when the cast members allocate the waiting slot number for you before you board the ride. They do this to allocate the spaces correctly allowing for different size parties. However a father and his daughter in front of me on IASW were allocated two spaces at the back of the boat that was the first one in a group of two. We were allocated the slots for the second boat but at the front. So what does the father and child in front do? They don't want to ride in the back of the first boat so they pinch our two slots so they can ride in the front. We then have to stand behind them thus blocking the gangway to the front boat. I refused to move elsewhere because I was allocated that space for a reason. And also other people were then getting allocated their spaces elsewhere. Why can't people just stay where they are tod to.

Whilst I'm on the subject what about when entering the 3D theatres or theatres/shows in the parks. When there are many people the idea is to go to the end of the row when entering the theatre. This allows all the people behind to file into the seats without having to climb over people already sitting down. So yet again "What do people go and do?" (even after the cast members tell everyone to move as far across as possible), they go and sit right in the middle leaving half the row empty. Thus forcing people behind to have to climb over them. And thus delaying the start of the show!!. Now how many times have you seen this happen? I must have seen it four or five times duringmy stay (Not all at the Magic Kingdom on Thursday though)

this totally irks me! happens at EVERY 3D show.

people want to be the FIRST in the theater - but they don't realize that that means "first in - all the way down to the end"

if they just WAIT, they'd get a center or closer to center seat?

i don't understand it either....

"When we were on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority, a mother sent her seven year old to sit in her own seat, then proceeded to sit two rows behind the child. Then, tried to get the child to climb over into her seat. "

People have actually died doing that on Disneyland's version of this ride:

From Snopes.com:

August 1967: Ricky Lee Yama, a 17-year-old Hawthorne, CA, resident, was killed when he disregarded safety instructions and exited his People Mover car as the ride was passing through a tunnel. Yama slipped as he was jumping from car to car and was crushed to death beneath the wheels of oncoming cars.

... and ...

7 June 1980: Gerardo Gonzales, a recent San Diego high school graduate, was killed on the People Mover in an accident much like the one that had befallen Ricky Lee Yama thirteen years earlier. Gonzales, in the early morning hours of a Grad Nite celebration, was climbing from car to car as the People Mover entered the SuperSpeed Tunnel adjacent to the former America Sings building. Gonzales stumbled and fell onto the track, where an oncoming train of cars crushed him beneath its wheels and dragged his body a few hundred feet before being stopped by a ride operator.

I have always been amazed that Splash does not have lock-down bars in the logs. When the boats get backed up, as they so often do, it's an open temptation for idiots to "liven up the wait" by messing around on the logs and trying to jump onto the prop areas. I agree that anyone over the age of about 5 who *deliberately* tries to defeat safety mechanisms needs to be immediately removed from the ride and escorted from the park.

As for the theatres, I've always thought that there should be a circle painted in the middle of the room, with a loop playing in the pre-show area telling people that standing in the circle will help to ensure the best seats in the theatre area. That way the rest of us can go around those clowns. I also think that there should be a CM stationed on a spotlight, so they can blind the offenders and embarrass them into proceeding to their proper seats! Can't you just picture it? "Please move down the row. Yes, you, sir. That's right, you in the Pirates cap. Also, when you reach your seat, you'll need to remove the cap. I know your feet hurt, but you are blocking the row. The show will not start until everyone is PROPERLY seated."
