Splash Mountain for scaredy cats

Have to tell you my DS :earboy2: , who was 5 at the time was a little scared to go on After a little pep talk (from his DB pirate: 8) he decided to go one. I wish you could see the look on his face (from the picture they take :scared1: ) OMG! Its so-o funny :rotfl: !!! But, he got off the ride and rode it 2 more X's!!!! At the end of our trip, we each bought a pin of our favorite ride. Guess which one my DS :earboy2: picked? Yup, Splash Mountain! Do you want me to send my DS's pirate: & :earboy2: for a little pep talk? Good luck and have fun!!!!!!!!!!

I'm curious about the picture comment, do they take pictures of everyone? Where on the ride is the picture taken? How do you get a copy?

My first trip to the Mouse is in 10 days, I'd LOVE to get pictures of myself and DBF on Splash Mountain!

They take pictures of car as it's going down the big drop. They have a section of the store to pick up the pictures as you exit the ride! Request a up front seat for a great picture! Have fun!

I am a major scaredy cat of drops. We watched shows with it on (sit coms and WDW on travel channel) - the drop seems like 5 seconds.
I will close eyes, hold on tights and press my feet to the floor.
I am going on the ride to please my family.
I am sure the will buy the picture and laugh at my face :)

I'm also a big chicken about roller coasters and so is my DH. We tried this ride for the first time in early Sept. and we turned around and went right back on. The drop is not that bad and it is over in 3 - 5 sec. We never felt like we would fall out. It looks much worse than it is. And the rest of the ride is great. There are a few smaller drops on the ride which kind of prepare you for the biggie! Good luck! And have fun! ::MickeyMo

I find the steep uphill pulling you towards to drop is way worse then the drop itself. I'm fine until I hit that point then I start to freak out. I just wish it was a drop, with no uphill before

I agree, the drop is so quick. That climb is killer. I agree with the other posters.. sit in the back of the boat.. Hold her hand. Let her see all the kids who can handle the ride.. Tell her the ride is very worth that intense moment. :goodvibes

Hill climb is inside.

My theory is, if they aren't strapping you in, it can't be that bad and this ride has no seat belts! I tell my kids try to count to three on the drop and they are so busy trying that the drop is already over and they don't get nervous!

I told DD6 that if Pocahontas could dive off that waterfall and come up happy, she will be just fine in that log.

The climb is inside. I guess for me the 1st time I rode it the climb made me nervous because my youngest ds kept saying get ready, get ready :rotfl: I was not sure what to expect, except that I knew once we got to the top there would be the drop. It really is a cool ride :goodvibes

Hi - is the hill climb inside or out? Why is it so bad? Do you really notice it?

I don't do the typical roller coasters, the ones where you are above ground on some type of frame, but I do love Big Thunder Mt and really enjoy Splash Mt.

The theme work, characters and music is outstanding and there is enough of a warning of the drop ahead that one has time to get ready for it. It goes by so fast, really isn't all that steep or long, just a short drop with no turns, so I never get the feeling that it might be unsafe.

There are a few little drops (more like dips) along the way in the dark, but once you know to expect them they are fun. I strongly suggest you try it. HAVE FUN!

I am also a Grandma about your mother's age. I love RnR, Space Mountain, and Fast Track. There are two rides I do NOT like - Splash Mountain and ToT. Splash does me in....that climb and the drop and not fun! I'm more than happy to stand on the bridge and watch my family drop down to the splash. I'd rather wait by myself that subject myself to that terror.

Splash Mountain is my laughin place!! I usually put my head down and doesn't seem so bad. Can't imagine not experiencing the entire ride with all the cute critters for a 3 second drop.
:hourglass 11 more days!!!!

I forgot to add that I am even a slight bit nervous when I know the little pirates drop is coming up :)
I also brace myself against the back of the seat (I got bruises on my knees from pressing so hard in front of me!)
What got me to go on was my husband making me watching the people after they dropped. I saw a kid that looked like she was three. My husband just looked at me and we both laughed. I agreed I had to try it if a 3 year old was on it!

I am very scared of roller coasters - won't go on them!

But I finally gave Splash Mountain a try - and I do love it. Most people who have posted so far have seemed less afraid than I was my first time on Splash. I was so terrified I could not enjoy all the wonderful themeing the ride offers.

If your Mom is really nervous talk her through all the smaller drops along the way - tell her they are only slight and make sure she knows the big drop is still a long way off - I kept expecting the big drop all the time - I wish I had known it was not coming yet!! As for the big drop - tell her to close her eyes and hold on and that it will be over very quickly - holding her may help - I have to have DH hold me.

As I said, I love Splash now, but it took quite a few goes on it before I began to enjoy it, I like to know exactly what to expect. I like sitting at the front now, DH was so shocked the first time I agreed to sit in front - I can even keep my eyes open for the drop now!

It is a long ride, and a fun one, the drop is a small price for the fun it gives.

(Oops, sorry! This is cleo posting under SimonV's name.)

When my son was 4 he wanted to try Splash Mountain but was afraid he would 'fall out' during the drop. I told him if he screams really loud the suction will 'stick' him to the seat. :teeth:

It gave him the confidence to try the ride and the scream distracted him from the drop. While you aren't likely to convince an adult they'll get suctioned to the seat, letting out a good scream really does help! And so far, to my knowledge, they haven't had anyone go flying out of the log when it heads down the hill yet. ;)

It REALLY looks a lot worse than it is. Every nervous person I've ever gone on it with has asked after, "Can we go again?" because they were so nervous about the drop they couldn't enjoy the rest of the masterful ride.

This really is the best ride Disney has to offer. Every person owes it to themselves to see it at least once!

As long as she is ok with it, i really hope she does it. My grandpa did Splash Mountain about 10 years ago with me and my family. He was about 60 also. In the picture me and my brother are cowering down and he is hanging on for dear life and screaming. He got the picture and shows it to me all the time and tells me that I made an old man do something stupid. Lol.

I am also a fraidy cat about heights. But I was forced (yes forced, by friends at least) onto big, upside down rollercoasters a few years ago. And honostly they aren't bad. Neither is Splash Mountain. The drop is big but it is over with quick and if you are in the back of the boat it isn't so bad. Another good thing is the ride isn't over after the drop, it still has some scenes to go through. This really helps to calm you down after. You know one thing that really helps when you go on Splash Mountain or even a roller coaster?? Scream!

You have all *almost* got me convinced to try out Splash Mountain on our next trip!

My DD9 went to Cedar Point last week with out neighbors and they talked her into trying out some of the wilder rides. She loved the coasters! I think I've lost my tame-ride-loving partner for WDW! I am sooooooo not into roller coasters or anything with a huge stomach-turning drop. But, it sounds like SM may not be as bad as I've always imagined and I really would like to check out the theme. Perhaps I can screw up my courage and make DD happy.

My question is this: How about BTMRR? Any big drops in this one? This will be my 7th trip to WDW and it would be nice to try something new! :teeth:

Gotta Get To Disney! :moped:

Bump!

Somebody please answer my BTMRR question or maybe I'll begin a new thread for that. Thanks!
