Closest hotels will be in Manassas on Route 234 Business / Sudley Road (near I-66). There are several within 10-15 minutes - Marriott Courtyard, Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn, Red Roof Inn come to mind. Lots of restaurants also. NOTHING within walking distance to Splash Down, you'll definitely need a car. You're also a few minutes away from Manassas Battlefield. Where will DH be working - is it close to Manassas?
Here's the website for Splash Down with more info.
Let me know what other questions you have and one of us in the area will be happy to help!

Thanks for the info. I was looking at The Comfort Suites on Williamson Blvd. right in Manassas. We will be driving from CT (taking a detour to Sesame Place first :teeth: thanks DH's working for paying for the gas :thumbsup2 ) so we will have the car. DH will have to get to work. He suggested I take him (bright and early :sad2: ) Plus I hate driving in unfamiliar places even if we have the GPS (hope that's the abbreviation  ) It will only be for one full day the kids and I could hang out at the hotel and swim and watch TV and whatever. Thanks again I might just be brave ;) and drive. We can drive it the night before with DH and see if it's an easy drive. :thumbsup2

The Comfort Suites is fairly new, and a good location for the Manassas area. Traffic can be a pain however - do you know where he's going to have to be for work? If you can give me that, I can tell you what you're looking at to take him to work..... When are you coming?? I'll keep my eye out for kid things to do for that time frame.

My kids like SplashDown a lot but I just want to warn you that this is a water park run by the local park authority and is in no way near the quality of a commercially run, themed water park. Not that there is ANYTHING wrong with SplashDown, it's just not what I would consider a "destination" water park.

I just moved to Manassas. The Comfort Inn is very nice, when my parents visited us in April they enjoyed it. It's a good choice with several restaurants nearby. I've never been to Splash Down but the locals seem to enjoy it. I live right across the street actually, I really should go there!

Mind if I do a piggyback post? How is Lake Fairfax Water Mine? Jake's camp goes there next week and I'm going to tag along (something about not wanting my 6yo at a water park without me... :teeth: ). I haven't been before and was wondering what it's like.

T&B, I haven't been to the Water Mine yet, but I asked about it on the New Mom thread cause another poster lives near it and she said it's pretty small but great for the under 5 set. So if you don't get any answers here, ask llij for some info.

About SplashDown, I've never been there but saw it on the new last week with all the flooding and it was totally covered in muddy water, feet of it. I'm sure that's gone now, but if your trip is this week I'd just double check on that.

In our (limited) experience, Splash Down has a lot more to do than the one in Fairfax.... that one has an OK slide, but a very small lazy river and not a lot of variety. Don't know how the admission $$ compare tho. Splash Down seems to cover quite a bit more real estate as I recall with multiple slides for older kids and a decent sized area for little guys. As was mentioned before, don't go in expecting TL or BB ;)

My DS has been to both and likes Splashdown better. He says it is bigger.

The Water Mine at Lake Fairfax is small and can get very crowded.

Bummer about the Water Mine. Oh, well, that's where his camp is going, so not much I can do about it. I don't care so much if he's bored--he's 6yo, so he'll have fun not matter what. I'm going along because he's not a great swimmer (he's ok, but he's only 6yo) and I'm too much of a worry wart to trust sending him without me there...

T & B - you'll also get an exciting ride on the Beltway to get there.... that may be better than any water slide :lmao:

T & B, my dd loves the WaterMine. It's especially wonderful if he's not a great swimmer. I don't think there's anywhere where the water's deeper than maybe 3 1/2 feet. I think he'll have a blast there, although it does tend to get crowded on weekends. Not so sure about weekdays.

Now I'm wondering if I'm being too protective by wanting to go with him, but better safe than sorry. On this Thursday they go to a Frederick Keys game and I sure want to go there. That's such a public place, even if it is a day that lots of camps go. And to think that I let my firstborn fly across the country to visit grandparents alone when she was this age! :rotfl2:
