we are thinking of trying this our next trip for Sept-- we make ADRS march 13th i am just trying to decide were we want to eat-- we have never had a ADR here before because of past reviews that didnt sound so good-- is it worth 2 credits? and is it a enjoyable experience? Or just ok? please give me the good, bad and ugly-- oh and of course tell me how the food is:) thanks so much

Absolutely, the entertainment is fun and the flamethrower at the end is worth the whole thing. the food is really tasty, chicken and ribs, rice veggies. The salad w/ mango dressing and pineapple bread my DH just loves. Then for dessert you get the chocalate volcana like a chocalate mousse w/ rasberry sauce. We have been 4 times. Kids really enjoy it.

Definately! We love this show and food. The show is sort of split into two parts, the first part is super corny which is good because you can enjoy your meal and not miss much. The second part is when the dancers wear traditional costumes and perform traditional dances from different parts of the world. At the end is a fire dance who is awesome! The food is very good. It starts with cocounut pineapple bread and salad and fresh pineapple. All are fresh and delicious! Then you get island ribs, roasted chicken and polynesian rice. Again, YUM!

This is definately worth the money or ddp credits!

I am not a big fan of this show. I tried to enjoy it I just didn't think it was that good. I've seen the Hoop Dee Do Rewiew twice and feel it blows the Sprit of Aloha away. And as far as the food goes I think they have similar menus.

I second this motion. The show is nothing special. Infact, IMHO, besides maybe the flamethrower it's kind of a waste of time. If you want to see a dinner show, go with Hoop-Dee-Doo. If you think about it this way: It is 2 TS credits for a dinner show. 1 TS credit is for the food and the second TS credit is for the show. SOA is worth the TS credit for the food but not with the TS credit for the show. HDDR is worth the TS credit for both the food and the show. Therefore, HDDR is worth the 2 TS credits and SOA is not.

we did this show 2 years ago and loved it so much we are doing it again on our upcoming trip. i have been to a number of luaus and although this is not a conventional luau, the firedancer and other dancers were great. my dh and ds loved the show and the food, as did i. i had booked this the first day i could and chose category 1 seating and we were lucky enough to get front center seats, best in the house. this definitely made the experience better and i would recommend going for the best seats if you can because it is more enjoyable. i can't comment on hoop de doo, but for us, the luau type of food and entertainment is more our style than the country style food and review. that being said, everyone always loves the hoop dee doo . the reviews are very favorable. sooo, count this as one vote for spirit of aloha. ( we are also trying ohana this time, having loved kona.) i guess we just love the food at the poly, altho we aren't staying there! good luck with your decision

Do the dancers interact with the audience at all? One of my kids isn't crazy about people coming around him in these types of shows, so I want to make sure we're out of the way enough so that isn't likely to happen. If anyone can recommend good but not "too close" seating, I'd appreciate it!

We did the Luau in October and, personally, I would not waste 2 credits on it again. The show was kinda boring and the food was pretty bland. The volcano dessert was the worst thing I put in my mouth on our trip - seriously YUCK! Hoop De Doo is about 100x better. The food is really good there and the show was entertaining for my whole family.

I totally agree with the underlined part above. My family loves the luau. Obviously, it's not an authentic luau, but we enjoy it. We also found the food to be very tasty and more than plentiful. Every family is different. If it seems like something your family might enjoy, try it.

We had a reservation for this show on our trip, but we were frozen out. It was canceled because it was FREEZING! So, I can't give a report. But, I do love Hoop Dee Doo!

We just did this show last week and it was really good. The food was not too bad, chicken and barbequed ribs were pretty tasty. Even the veggies were good. It is not all about the food, the show was very intertaining. A wide spectrum of dancers and dances. The costumes seemed authentic. They have a part where they call the audience on stage to dance with them, the kids and adults were pretty funny. All in all it was a good time. The show was packed with people but the food moved very quickly to the guests before the show started. I thought the price was worth the show, we sat in the first row center. It is one of the places that we would want to go back to.

If Hoop De Do is an A+ (and it is...)

Then SoA, IMO, is about a B-

Not that a B minus isn't worth doing, but I'm always on the fence about recommending that show.

The food is often luke warm, and has always struck me like something that came from some Hawaiian cafeteria. (I swear, the menu hasn't changed in 30 years... neither have the plates and glasses ) and show has been, well, not 'dumbed down', but much more geared toward young children, which may or may not be a good thing for everyone.

The service has a very strong, "get 'em in, get 'em out" vibe that I've never felt at Hoop De Do, and parents and their kids often crowd the stage to take pictures, which blocks the view of many in their seats.

The Luau is a must for us every trip. The food is good and the entertainment is fun. We always have a good time.

I personally would not ever care to see this show again. My husband on the other hand LOVED it. . .I accused him of the alcohol helping him like it! Our 3 children 4,11,15 were with us. Our 15 year old sorta liked it, our 11 year old kept asking when it was going to be over, and our 4 year old fell asleep.

However, I'm glad to say that I've had the experience but wouldn't pay or use ddp for it again. Food was really good. I think the thing I was most dissapointed on was that I thought it would be an authentic luau and it was not. The story line was very corny to me. We were one the ddp and so our seats were in the VERY last row of tables and I had 2 poles blocking my view of the stage. I'm sure the poor seating added to my dislike of the show. I think this is one of those shows you either like it or hate it. It has some very good reviews and then very bad reviews also.

As mentioned, if you have small children they're more than likely going to get antsy and/or bored at some point. This show is three acts long and eats up quite a bit of your evening. The kids do get to go onstage and perform at one point, but overall it's kind of slow-moving. If I had kids I seriously doubt they'd have found the first two acts very entertaining.

The third act is the only part where you get to see traditional dancing, and even then it's a little 'tamed out' for the sake of DisneyXD The fire dude's ok, but it wasn't the highlight of the show for me. If you have an extremely simple palette when it comes to food then you'll probably enjoy the meal. I thought the food itself (especially the fresh pineapple) was great but again it'll vary from person to person.

If you do decide to go be prepared for just how long of an evening you're in for. It's supposedly just a little over two hours but it doesn't feel like it. Especially if you go to the later show, then there's lots of distractions. The water pagaent goes by, and you miss the fireworks across the lake. I could see a lot of kids getting particularly frustrated that they were missing out on these things.

I say do the earlier show if you've got younger ones. As a party of all adults we got a little bored at times, but ended up faring just fine in the end. Families rush outta that thing as fast as they can when it's over. As for me, I'll be doing this show again next time if not just for the food alone. If I could get the food without seeing the show, that'd probably be my better option.

Oh, and don't sit in the very front...unless you're hoping to be a volunteer and dance in front of everyone 0_0;

My sister liked the food, but I thought it was bland too. The bread was nothing special, now if it was warm with butter..maybe.The dessert came out with such fanfare with the smoking volcanos that the dessert itself was a real let down. Our waitress was a little strange. If your glass got off the napkin/coaster, she was there in a heartbeat wiping down the table. .We could only get 3rd tier and I could only see one group of dancers. The traditional dances were really fun to watch ( the dancers were VERY easy on the eyes). We were sitting between two sets of people that looked like they were allergic to fun.And believe me..you are very close to others. The overall atmosphere was very festive. The waiting area was lit with white and blue Christmas lights. It was worth doing one time, but now that I've done it I won't go back. If I get to go back to Disney I want to do the Hoop De Doo.
