Excellent question We did the Hoop-de-Doo last visit and would like to try one of these next time (HDDR was great, by the way if you've never done it). I'd love to hear every one's opinion on these two choices though.

We attended the Spirit of Aloha show this past Tuesday. It was good overall but I was disappointed with several points.
The food was very limited. You were given a platter with roasted half chickens, rice and very gloppy ribs. We asked and received another plate of ribs without the sauce and they were better. They did bring my toddler a hotdog and mac and cheese when the server noted he wasn't eating much but there were no other adult options.
The show was silly for the first 2/3 of the show and then was very good. In my opinion, it would have been better if they just had the last 40 minutes of the show.
I don't think we'd go again, but I wouldn't discourage you if you like the limited food options. If you do go, I'd recommend getting tier 1 seating. We did and were in the front row. I heard a lot of people complaining they couldn't see much from further back and it is a very large theater space.
The food was fine. For us, it was just not enjoyable overall. You are in a very large pavillion, there are lots and lots of tables. The characters are there and the show is ''fun'' but it is (in our case) pretty far away-so you kind of feel removed from the goings on of the event.
If you were up near the stage, maybe it would be different. But we won't be doing this again.
We have done both and I honestly don't think I'd opt for Spirit of Aloha with a small child. I think they would get bored very quickly. Mickey's BBQ is fun, but just not worth the money IMO. We've tried it a couple different times and won't again. HDDR is alot of fun for all ages. The food is nothing fancy, but very good, as is the service. This show while having no characters will keep kids occupied.
Just a follow up to my earlier post, we had my DS3 with us and behind us (but still in the front row) was a table with a number of 5-8 year olds. They all seemed very interested in the show. There are a few times when they get all the kids up to learn how to hula dance etc. Since we had done innovations at epcot earlier in the day with the fire saftey exhibits my son was pretty concerned and asked a lot of questions about the fire dancer...
I cannot comment on the Spirit of Aloha show because we have never seen it before. But, my family and I went to Mickey's By BBQ last December for my son's 5th birthday and we had a blast. It was the highlight of our trip! I was a little worried because of all the bad reviews I had read about. I even tried to cancel and get a ressie for the Hoop De Doo show but no such luck. When we arrived, we were seated with other families on long picnic tables. The food was buffet style with BBQ ribs, chicken, hot dogs, corn on the cob, mac n cheese, ect... There was a roping performer who did amazing things with the rope. The children get to sit on the floor Indian style to watch him perform close up. My son's favorite part was dancing with Mickey. Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Chip, and Dale are all there interacting and dancing with the crowd on the dance floor. Mickey was great with the children. He pointed to my son and held his hands and danced with him by himself for a few minutes. My ds is typically shy and I didn't figure that he would even get out there to dance. He danced as long as they'd play music. They even teach line dancing if you're up to that. My son was exhausted by that time so we left a little early. We felt as if we had gotten our moneys worth. This is just my two cents worth and maybe we enjoyed it so much because it felt like a southern family reunion! Good luck with your trip and your planning!
