Spirit of Aloha or Hoop De Doo?

Please let me know which one you like better and why if you've done both. I've only done HDDR (several times) and as recent as last week so I am thinking of switching to the Spirit of Aloha for my birthday in May. Thanks in advance for your opinions.

You can form your own opinions on HDDR as you've been there. We did SOA last year and found it to be a unique fun show and experience. Couldnt tell if you had kids from your signature, ours are younger but enjoyed the show so it would be fine if you have kids - still, it seems more geared to adults. Show was entertaining (singing, dancing and fire juggling) and food (especially if you like ribs) was very good. There was a segment when they brought the kids up for hula lessons. Beer and wine included is a bonus. IF you havent done SOA, maybe a good choice as something different for the birthday.

PP indicated it was a character experience (SOA) but it was not the time we were there

Another PP indicated that SOA is outside - it is in an open air "pavilion", but you're covered and the stage is covered - a storm went through when we were there last year and it had no impact on it. It rained a bit during parts of the show but seemed to not have an impact on it.

We've done both and that's such a hard question! We loved both--the Luau for the show and the wonderful atmosphere---HDDR for the hilarious show and the food was a little bit better.
We're going to go in November and we decided that we're doing one of the shows again--I left it up to my daughter and she picked HDDR. I'd be happy with either, however.

What characters are at HDDR??

There are no "characters" at either HDDR or SoA; both have excellent performers, who are most definitely "in character" ;). Perhaps you are thinking of Mickey's Backyard BBQ, which has Disney characters in costume?

If you have little ones then the Aloha dinner would be better. They get to go onstage and dance, my neice and nephew loved it. Plus there are characters there. The adults were a little bored when the kid's were not involved onstage. We also did the Hoop De Doo and the adults had a better time there. The humor at this show went over the little one's heads. However, they did like the food better at Hoop De Doo. Both were great in different way's!

We won't have any little one with us for this trip and I agree about the HDDR humor. :rotfl:

In my opinion, they are 2 entirely different shows. I liked them both, but neither are something I would see every time I go. Since you haven't seen the Aloha, why not try it?

I agree - we should try something new so SOA - here we come!!

You are right I should try soemthing different and thanks for the info on the open air pavilion. It's good to know that we won't get soaked if a storm rolls through.

Since you loved both - I definitely have to try SOA and will save our next HDDR show for December.

Thanks to everyone for all the replies. SOA - here we come and Happy Birthday to me!!!
