We are going to the World in Sept for our anniversary, but due to poor communication with FIL, we are now taking DD7 with us. So I had to scramble and change ADR's etc for the four days we are there. I ended up getting the luau for 9/13 at 5:15 (I tried 8 different restuarants, I swear, to get a ressie at 5ish. ).

So for anyone who has been, how did you like it? How was the show? The food? We got Cat 3 seats, I really did not care where we were so long as we were there. Is the food similar to that served at Ohana? I missed that on my last trip as DD was sick, and I can't get an ADR there either!!

Please tell me all about the luau-good, bad or otherwise.:flower3:

Thanks!!!

I was there in 2003 with my nieces and nephew. The food was mediocre at best. The show was kind of corny, too, but okay. It's supposed to be corny, this is Disney. The 5 year old nephew fell asleep during dinner, he was bored silly. I wouldn't go again.

VernRDH,
My sister took her kids last August (ages 7 and 10) and they loved it. I was on the trip with them - but my DD and I went to Epcot to give them some family time. She said the food was not spectacular, but decent and plenty of it. She said they had a lot of fun. They had crafts before hand and her kids loved that. The food came quickly and it was all you could drink beer and wine. My sister, who rarely drinks, came back to the room a bit tipsy! :)

Based on her recommendation, I am going to try it this January. I think my DD (7) will enjoy it. Something a little different...so go and enjoy!

We saw in September of last year and enjoyed it. As you check in you are given lei's and they take a family picture that you can purchase later if you wish. There was already bread and salad at the table. The food was really good especially the ribs. I think I ate them all myself. My DS's were given a box of food that had chicken nuggets, mac and cheese. The whole theme of the show is about family and traditions. My DS's (ages 9 & 7) were a bit bored at the beginning but then of the men in the show put on a display with a fire stick and my DS's were amazed as how he could throw around and do tricks with a stick that is on fire. After the show we went to the Poly boat dock and took a boat over to MK for the rest of evening. All in all we enjoyed the show and would see it again. We also thought it was worth the 2 TS credits if you are on the dining plan.

We went ther in August of last year also. The food was good and like the others posted, plenty of it. The dessert wasn't that great. It was chocolate mousse shaped like a volcano. they bring it out with a larger volcano that is "smoking". Both of my sons (6 and 9) thought it was cool, but neither liked the taste very well. The show really didn't hold there attention until the guys twirling the flame stick. They loved that. I thought the food was good and it was an enjoyable meal. Probably will wait to do it again, just because there are so many other things at WDW we haven't yet done! I hope you enjoy your trip!!

Thanks to everyone for the replies. We are looking forward to this, despite some of the less than stellar reviews given here and at other sites. We are generally easy to please and I am sure DD will like the show, corny or not. (she is easily amused:rotfl: ).

Only 77 more days!!!:cool1: :cool1:

We did the Luau on our first trip 10 years ago when they had Mickey's Luau (with characters) and the one they do now. The food was horrid. Seating was bad and I would not do it again. It's so much more now than it was back then and I would find it difficult to even consider paying that much for it. It is NOT worth two TS credits.
