Now that Spirit charges per checked bag, I wonder if they will charge for gate checking a stroller. Does anyone know or have experience with that? I can't find an answer on their website.

We did not have to pay to gate check the stroller, although we did buy our tickets in Nov. before they started charging for the bags.

it's such a good question, i was literally about to call them and ask just for my own edification when I found this in their FAQs:

Can I bring my child’s car seat on board?

Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved infant seats are accepted in the cabin when an additional seat is purchased for the infant.

Note: Bassinets, infant seats and strollers may be accepted as checked baggage at no extra charge, and are not considered part of the customer’s free baggage allowance.

although you may want to call them just to doublecheck. but if you checked 2 bags per person already and brought a stroller to the gate, they'd be monsters to charge you $100 to store it.

thank you so much! I thought I had scoured their website pretty good and was going to go through the hassle of calling. You are very helpful!!:goodvibes Your posts have been helpful many times in other threads. Thanks!

The only thing that bothers me is the wording "not considered part of the FREE baggage allowance"
Since they don't have free baggage anymore; I wonder if this is just outdated language. Hopefully they won't be changing their policy on those items being extra checked baggage. I guess I will probably end up confirming that before we leave. Monsters they may be! ;)

well thanks, i try :) to be honest, i had the same thought myself, but i really have to strongly doubt they'd reverse the policy like that, but that's why i noted you might want to call them just to be positive.

i have to believe if they were charging for strollers though that it would have been mentioned sometime and i don't recall seeing such a thing

After speaking with a real live person at Spirit Airlines that confirmed with a superior they said that there are no fees associated with checking a stroller at their airline.
I guess I will be trying this out in a few days. But I agree with you, bradk, that if they had starting charging for strollers then surely someone would have posted about it since so many take their strollers. Even though paying for checked baggage is still fairly new to Spirit.
