We were originally going to drive to WDW in December, but now my DH has found $49 tickets from Detroit to Orlando and wants to fly.

I have never flown before and I am very nervous about flying in general. I have never heard of Spirit before and that makes me even more nervous.

Has anyone ever flown Spirit before or has heard anything about them?

We used Spirit in the past - from Atlantic City, not Detroit.
We had no problems with them. For $49 I would sure use them for our October trip instead of driving.

We use Spirit all the time. We have always had our flights be on time and the employees are great. We just flew them in July.

i love spirit! i use them all the time. new planes, leather seats... cheap fares!!! my only problem is that they don't fly out of the closest airport to me.

I flew them once while they were still in Denver. No problems at all.

Go for it!!! That's an AWESOME price!!
Sure beats gas at almost $3 a gallon...

I have flown SPIRIT out of Detroit too many times to count. They are a basic no frills airline. There are no pillows, blankets or free snacks. You can purchase a snack, but have a charge card because they don't take cash. Beverage service is provided.

The only bad thing about SPIRIT out of Detroit is they fly out of the nasty SMITH terminal. Baggage claim is filthy and there aren't many choices for food in the terminal. The bathrooms are pretty primative, too. Luckily the Smith is due to be demolished once the NEW terminal is built. Until then, watch where you sit.

Yep, Pinnie is right, Smith Terminal is worse then anyother terminal ive been to. Spirit themselves is a no frills airline. They fly a brand new fleet of Airbus A319's and A321's. The seats are all leather and very comfy, the Flight Attendents are average and the pilots all seem young to me :confused3 Anyways, I have used them in the past, will probibly use them in the future as they seem to have good deals consistently. I prefer Northwest or American when prices are competitive, but will fly Spirit to save $50 or so per person....

Spirit is also quite financially sound. They are one of the very few airlines to actually turn a profit year after year. I don't know precisely how long they've been around, but I know I used to fly them a lot between 8 and 11 years ago when I lived in Cleveland but wanted to get to Atlantic City.

Yep. No thrills but always friendly and polite. Out of Detroit also new terminal will be nice.

We've flown Spirit out of Detroit many times. No problems at all. An occasional weather delay, but that can happen on any airline.

However, Spirit is not at the new terminal in Detroit. Unfortunately, they fly out of the old Smith terminal. It's not the greatest, but certainly not a deal breaker.

You'll be fine. Have fun!

Hey Denise - what kind of thrills do you want on an airplane? :teeth:
Sorry, couldn't resist :thumbsup2

I have to agree that we love Spirit. We fly from Detroit to Orlando about 4 times a year and usually fly with them. The terminal is old but the planes are new with all leather seats and great employees. We are using them in Oct and Jan. We found tickets for $39 each way in Oct and $45 in Jan. You can't beat that. :cool1:
