Spirit Air UP!

^^ Does jet blue give you bags for free? they have a current 200 RT fare but it's like 2 hours to Newark for me rather then 15 mins to ACY. The conveinence is worth the fare for us a lot. The bad news is the kids and I are going with my friend so we can't fly our spirit and come home Philly since her car will ne here then and she lives near Phily. I have to find something from there and drive to her house or something from here and she will drive to my house. Friday ngiht is $ 88 with Spirit but saturday coming home is $ 178.00. I have never seen a fare for ACY to MCO over $ 100 before now. She wants to drive, I don't but I am considering it.

Thanks. Still looking. Spirit is $ 266.00 w/o bags as of today. US Airways is $ 259.00 w/o bags and Southwest $ 286 with bags. Not much difference.

Really the only difference then is the ease in which you can change/cancel flights on SWA. We love the flexibility that SWA allows.
We were supposed to go to TX in June. As we were about to go to bed and get up at 4 am for our flight, we discovered TS Debby in the Gulf, with most forecast models showing it would head for TX. While they discussed storm preparations & where to find shelters on the weather channel, we decided to cancel.
There was no fee at all and now we're heading to Cali in Sept. Easy peasy.
If we had been booked on USAirways, there would have been $600 in change fees alone for the 4 of us.
We almost never fly without bags so if you're someone who can, then the cheaper flights would be a better deal.

Jet Blue is currently much lower then the rest and the free bag is enticing as well. BUT it's a 2 hour drive there versus a 15 minute drive to Spirit in NJ or a 90 minute drive to Phily from me. The difference is 85 pp at Atlantic City and 50 in Phily and the times are PERFECT. ARG!

I'd go with jetblue for the extra 30 minutes drive and no baggage fees. Worth the $50 per person, IMHO.

^^^ I may do this or at least go home JB. going Spirit and coming home JB is way less expensive then anything else right now.

The only problem I see with this is you are using two different airports that are almost 2 hours away from each other!

Nah, ACY is 15 mins from me and ERW is 2 hours, less with traffic. Phily is 90 mins.

^^^ I hear you but my brother lives in the city and will pick us up and then come down for a visit so that works ok. Of course I would rather Spirit and a 15 minute ride home but the difference in that flight is $ 93 dollars time me and the kids makes over $ 300. Even a shuttle is much less then that.

I have been flying on spirit for a while now and this year 2012 has been the worst in sales and discounts compared to past years. (I have the 9$ fare club and the bofa card) .. 15 flights, 2 people, never paid more than 300$ total in the past. This years flight for me and fiancé is for 9/24 to 9/27 I used miles for 3/4 of it, but a one way ticket cost us $20, so these fares do exist they are just less frequent now

There is kind of a trick with spirit, sign up for their emails (although you will have to be in the fare club to qualify for the 9$ fares), they send them out all week but historically mon, tues, wed are the best sale days. You've really gotta check their website every single day

I have flown from acy (live in staten island ny) to Orlando and myrtle beach with my fiancé for 200$ and under in the past including fees
I never pre pay for seats anymore (works for 2 people more than larger groups unless you don't mind being separated on the small planes) and you can change your seats free at the airport kiosks

The personal item is a large purse and I mean large or a small overnight bag, I have consistently used the same pink Anne Klein overnighter and never had an issue ever

Anyway, I've been lurking on this board for a while and there's so much info about everything..I hope I've contributed somewhat :cool1:

I don't mind checking online every day but as for not bothering to prepay seats, that only works when you're a couple. Once you have kids, believe me, you won't want to be separated. I'll certainly pay if I need to. :thumbsup2

Still the same price and I have to poo or get off the pot ASAP. Either I get convienence and pay the big bucks, pay somewhat less and have to drag the kids around in the middle of the night or drive (shudder).
