For everyone that luvs mission space; I would love to go on this ride on our next trip in November, however I cannot spin, merry go rounds make me sick. My SIL is trying to convince me that you can't even tell that you are spinning, I believe her, but I also think she might get some sort of humor out of my reaction!! Can you feel the spin? Honestly?

thank you,
Amy :flower1:

I went on for the first time in November and really couldn't feel any spinning at all. I followed the directions and relaxed, and the ride was great! :D :D

I am very interested in this as well charmings'luv!

I, too, am often affected by spinning, especially in teacup-type rides, although merry go rounds don't bother me. But Mission Space didn't give me any problems. I felt a tiny bit lightheaded when I got off, but not at all ill. I did not have any sensation of spinning - it really felt as if I were being launched in a spacecraft!! Be sure to follow their directions - keep looking straight ahead, don't close your eyes or look around, and relax and breathe normally.

I really think a lot of what you may or may not experience on Mission Space depends on what actually causes you to get sick. If your motion sickness is inner ear related, I think you'll have bad effects, even though there is no real physical sensation of spinning. If you are sensitive to something as mild as a carousel, then I don't think I would chance Mission Space.

My DH is very sensitive to spinning rides, even a merry go round. He will still go on merry go round to be with our kids, but something like the tea cups ride is out of the question for him. He is also prone to car sickness. Our DS-10 convinced him to go on Mission Space and he really wanted to see what all the fuss was about, but he went on with reservations. The result: while it is true that you could not tell on the ride that you were spinning, DH was definitely affected! He felt woozy when he got off and sick to his stomach. He didn't loose his lunch or anything, was just "off" for the rest of the day and had no desire to eat for several hours after. The next day he felt fine.
In spite of this, he was still glad he got to experience this ride...but never again!

I am sure the experience is different for everyone and you may not have these feelings at all. Just wanted to give another point of view. Wish you the best :D

I, too, hate hate hate those spinning rides. They make me really sick to my stomach. I rode Mission: Space in September 2003, and while it was a surreal sensation, I did not notice any spinning at all. However, I also was not really aware that I WAS spinning until a few months later. I am not sure if that had an impact. I am going back to WDW in May and I am a bit nervous to ride this now that I know it is spinning, but I will do it and I am looking forward to it again. The biggest thing I can advise for this ride is to not think about the fact that you are spinning. Just let the ride throw you into imagination and actually imagine and picture yourself being shot off the face of the planet straight up into outer space. :D

I am someone who loves roller coasters but has trouble on spinning rides. Carousels don't bother me, but that teacup ride is out of the question.

I rode Mission Space for the first time this summer. I was aware that there were many warning signs within the line as well as when you get nearer to the actual ride itself warning you about spinning, dizziness, etc. I chose to go ahead ~ hey, gotta try them once at least! Did I get sick? Well, I did feel the spinning sensation. I recommend that you follow the directions exactly - look only at the screen and do not shut your eyes for an extended period. I did both of these "no-no's" and I paid the price. The spinning sensation is MUCH worse with your eyes closed or if you look left or right.

After exiting the ride I was a little "off", feeling weird. It took me about 20-30 minutes to feel right again. I personally won't ride it again, but I can tell you that I was glad I tried it and I can say it is not as bad spin-wise as the teacups ride.

Dh cannot take spinning rides, but he did go on Mission Space, and did not feel sick. He also took a dramamine an hour before riding it, so that may have helped. I think as Chuck S said above, it depends on what makes you sick. Also as said above do not close your eyes at all on the ride, and do not move your head from side to side, doing these things will make it more likely for you to perceive the spinning.

there's spinning?!?!?? i've only been on it once, and i had no idea! so there you go ;)

I didn't notice the spinning at all--even when trying to. Dh noticed it immediately--he felt as though he was spiraling up during lift-off. He is very sensitive to motion, though. He was very sick for several hours. He pretty much held on to me to go from bench to bench while the rest of us toured the World Showcase.

The thing is, carosel and tea cup rides are quite different from Mission Space because the visual input is very different...on Space, because you are looking forward at a TV, your visual input is in conflict with the fluid that's bouncing in those channels in your ears as you spin, so you don't feel the full effects of dizziness. When you are on a carosel or tea cups, you are not only spinning that fluid, but you are also receiving visual input that is spinning. That is why on Space it is very important for you to focus on the screen, because your brain is telling you that you aren't spinning and it likes it that way.

There are people who get sick with either or both types of stimuli...so you never quite know how it is going to work.

I do know that when I was on Space, and I knew I was spinning, I think I felt sicker than if I was ignorant to the spin...psych! It was also the added anxiety of the barf bags being present that made me quite nervous because the possibility was there (there are no barf bags on Dumbo ;)

I love all types of rides and never had an issue with any ride in the past, but Mission Space was a different story.

MISSION SPACE MADE ME SICK!!! SICK!!! SICK!! I do not recommend this ride to anyone.

I didn't feel any spinning while I rode it. The only reason I knew that there was spinning was that I read up on it first. While on the ride I followed all the directions given to me and did what I was told to do. But with all that, I still felt a bit off after the ride and was feeling icky for a while. It seems to me that everyone has a slightly different experience with this ride. I personally wont go on it again. But Im glad I gave it a try.
