"Spinner" Luggage

Yep, we checked there...they only had single pieces of luggage...no two from the same brand. We want to get all luggage the same to make it easier to find/keep track of.

Just a tip. Get some of those straps that go around your bag (they have them at Dollar Tree and other places). Mine are rainbow colored. They make it easy to spot your bag quickly. I can't tell you how many times I've heard people comment, when they saw my bag on the luggage carousel, on what a great idea that was! :rotfl2:

I second those straps. I have an innate fear of my luggage coming down the carousel with my underwear hanging out. I have those straps and put them on everytime. I  them. Can't help you on the luggage. I am using a set of Samsonite that were my mother's. They are at least 25 years old. I refuse to buy new knowing what can happen once you check a bag.

As for our damaged spinner luggage sadly it was the Samsonite. I really think it is luck of the draw weather or not the airline takes a wheel off. We only used it twice when it happened so it was new too. To pull on those wheels you would think they would never have been able to put enough force on it to pull the whole thing out of the bag but somehow they did.

I have a question for those using straps. I was always told and on American Airlines website it says not to use straps because they can get caught in the airline belt system damaging the luggage. I am wondering how many times you have used a strap on your luggage and if you have ever had damage?

Thanks,
Ang

I've used luggage straps many times and have never had a bag damaged because of the strap. I have had the strap loosened up, which might indicate it had been snagged somehow.

We have Atlantic luggage, and I have a 25" spinner bag. It lost a wheel on it's 5th or 6th trip. It's not poor luggage design, it's rough handling by the airline.

Bright side though - still had 3 more wheels, so it was still manueverable, and when I got home I called Atlantic, and I was able to buy a replacement wheel. It was fairly easy to replace, and I think with shipping it was $12.

Thanks for posting! I'm glad to hear that your luggage was still manageable with missing one wheel and that it was easy to replace.

I've used them many times as well (last trip was international to Israel and included going through several different airports with plane changes - Memphis, Atlanta twice, New York, and Israel). I've never had a problem.

I make sure that they are fastened very snugly. I put them through the handle. My bag has two outside pockets on the front (one on the top front and a larger one on the lower front). I put the strap between those two pockets. That way the pockets and the handle both protrude above the strap.

My parents also use these straps, and they've been on many, many flights (Alaska, Hawaii, all over the country) and cruises. They've never had a problem.

Just wanted to say thanks again to everyone.

I sent back the luggage I ordered from ebags. DH didn't like it.

So we ended up buying 4 pieces from Burlington Coat Factory. They are discontinued luggage -- Samsonite Mobilite 2.

We decided to go with inexpensive luggage to see how they hold up, since many of you on here have had good/decent experiences with the 'cheaper' luggage. For 2 large and 2 small pieces, the cost was just over $200.

Our trip is in just over 3 weeks, so we'll see how it handles.

Thanks!
