Spin off: Why do you have piercings and/or tattoos?

I am 42 and I have 10 holes in my ears. Four on one side and six on the other. I've had them since I was 22. I really liked the way they looked with hoops back then.

Now and again I regret them, but they look awful if I don't put earrings in. I currently just wear very small silver ball studs. At some point, I'll try letting them grow over but I'm certain that ship has sailed.

I don't care for facial piercings. I don't mean to sound insulting, but I cannot stand it when my waiter or waitress has facial piercings. I literally can lose my appetite.

(I know this is an old topic, I want to resurrect, hope that's ok?)

I have each ear pierced once, and 1 tattoo. Planning on more tattoos, definitely.

I would love to get snake bites

but DBF hates them lol. So I don't think that'll happen. More money for tattoos though! Lol.

My mom actually has 2 holes per ear. When she worked at a piercing place, they practiced on each other. She only uses 1 though (the bottom ones split....)

That has got to be the most unattractive thing I've seen in a long, long time. Is that an infection?

Not many piercings for me - three holes in one ear, two in the other. Picking out my next tattoo - I want one to commemorate my cancer survival and my daughter is 19 and I haven't had one done for her yet.

My daughter has one of my favorite tattoos - it is an illustration from Le Petit Prince by St Exupery. A scene where the prince escapes the asteroid helped by a flock of wild seagulls. It is a bit larger than I expected but very nicely done. She has wings on her ankle that I don't care for. i just don't think they are attractive.

My step daughter has lovely flowers on her hands. But there is no hiding those and it has limited her ability to find a second job outside of her and her husbands business - which is owning a tattoo and body piercing parlor.

I have my lobes pierced twice on both ears. My first holes were done when I was months old (I wanna say three or four, not sure though). The second ones I got done for my 12th birthday. I got my rook on my left ear pierced back in June as a little graduation present to myself. I'm not sure why I wanted my second holes done, I didn't wear anything in them for the longest time. Now I love them because I just wear something simple in the second holes and change out the first. The rook piercing, like I said, was a grad gift to myself. I really wanted a daith piercing but luckily enough the piercer was nice enough to tell me that he wasn't sure if it would heal correctly because I didn't have enough cartilage, so I just went for the rook piercing because it's pretty similar. I love the way it looks, it's just taking soooo long to heal and I can't stop touching it which makes it take longer. I would love a septum piercing, but my BF hates them. I might get one or two more piercings, nothing facial. I have one tattoo, a treble clef on my right shoulder blade, and plan on getting at least two more (maybe more ;) ).

This is my ear with the rook:

It's still a little swollen because I've been playing with it. :sad2: But it is better then it has been.

I had my ears pierced as a child. Then they closed up and I had them pierced again. Then I got my second hole.

Both holes are closed now. I never really liked pierced ears but had them done because everyone else did . DH doesn't like pierced ears so it works out!

I have two holes in each ear, which I wear earrings in every day.

Had a belly button ring-I was drunk. No other explanation.:confused3

I took it out because to me it's along the lines of a "tramp stamp" tattoo and it doesn't define me or express anything.

Why do I have mine? Because I can I guess! And because my artist is incredible.

I have a certain "unmentionable" piercing that I got just because it was wild and very out of character for myself and wanting to do it just because:rolleyes1. Have yet to regret it either:rotfl:

The piercings I have are 2 holes in each ear lobe, the first I got when I was 10 and the second I was 13. I had a 3rd hole in each ear that I got when I was 16 but, both of the 3rd holes got infected big time and I had to let them close. I think they got infected because I was young and stupid so I let my friend pierce them (she was also 16).

Tattoos: I have 2
The first is a flower on my chest(left side). The flower was picked by my DD who was 2 1/2 at the time, it's blue because that is the color of her birthstone. It also has a small lady bug on the flower because when DD was little I called her bug. It also has her name on it.

The second tattoo is in memory of my mother who passed on March 14, 2009. The tattoo is a butterfly on my left shoulder blade with her initials underneath. The butterfly is done mostly in red (because that was her favorite color) with some orange and yellow for highlights. My 2 sisters have exactly the same tattoo, we got them together on the night we buried our mom. The reason we chose the butterfly was because at the cemetary while my sisters and I were standing together a butterfly appeared out of no where and circled around us for a minute. The butterfly didn't go near anyone else and then just flew away. The funny thing is, the summer before mom died she was in Tennesee (they had a "vacation" home there) and a butterfly kept flying around her and then landed on her shoulder and then her left hand (my sis has a picture of mom holding the butterfly), it was the same kind of butterfly that was at the cemetary. So that is why we chose a butterfly.

*planning on getting a third tattoo for my DS but, I said he could pick it just like his sister did. He wants it to be something good so he has been thinking about it for a couple of months because he isn't sure what he wants to "represent" him. He has chosen the spot, he wants me to get it on my ankle.

Handbag_Lady: I don't think it's infected, just freshly pierced. New piercings often look a little red and slightly swollen, but without the seeping fluids or scabby aspects of an infection.

xJenna, I loooove the rook piercings! They do take forever, though; originally mine was pierced and the piercer put in a CBR (different meaning entirely here, though!) but the curvature of the ring was too much and I kept having problems until I switched to a barbel. I love the way rings look in them, though.

I'm the complete opposite. I prefer the barbell in rook piercings. My piercer wanted to put in a ring because they're supposedly easier to cleans but I asked for the barbell.

No, it's just very very fresh. see in the center of the lip where a line was drawn so the piercings wouldn't be off-center?
Irritated? Most certainly! There was just a needle poked through that lip! Twice!
Infected? No. Probably less than 10 minutes old - so red & swollen, but not from infection.
