The Spider man ride at IOA intrigue's (sp?) me. I want to ride when we go in June. However, my wife does not like thrill rides with large drops. She's fine on BTMRR, Alien Encounter, Dinosaur, etc. But she will not ride Splash Mountain, Space Mountain or ToT.

Here's my question, the Unofficial Guide states that there is a 400 foot sensory drop at the end of the ride. Can anyone describe this? Is it a real drop ala the ToT or is it a simulated drop done with the 3D effects? A combination of the two? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Although it is not the exact same ride concept, the closest comparision to anything is Dinosaur. Spiderman is a moving ride vehicle that goes along the ride path and the vehicle moves up and down with hydralics (like Dinosaur) however it has 3-D glasses and movie screens in the show scenes (but is not a simulator so you don't get that feeling...I hate simulators and had no problem with Spiderman.) The "drop" at the end is a very unique expereince. Basically you are in a room and the entire wall is a screen, spiderman is ontop of a building and he jumps... You do not actually "Drop" it is a hydralic simulation created by the movement of the vehicle and the video screen...

This is the best ride I have ever been on. It's a thrill ride, 3d, special effects, all rolled in one. Try it. I'm in my 50's and I loved Hulk too, but if any ride impressed me it was Spriderman. I'd love for them to make more rides like this. it's the BEST.

First of all...spiderman is an AWESOME ride!

And you don't stay in one room like Star Tours/Body Wars...you move around like in Dinosaur...think of the "sensory drop" as a movie screen in front of you 'depicting' you falling (think windows flying by on a building going down)...you're not actually falling, and you don't get the "free fall" drop feeling like on TOT...but you do feel like something is off. It really is tame.

I actually rode this ride on a day when I was having HORRIBLE back spasms...and I was fine on this ride. (we left the park soon after and stopped by CentraCare...but that's another story) :)

I liked this ride (Spiderman) so much better than Back to the Future! At the end of the ride I was just like "That was awesome, can we go on that again?" like I was a little kid.

I think the new one, Revenge of the Mummy, might be similiar. (With even MORE amazing effects) I've heard it might also be more "rollercoaster-ish" though.

bengalfreak - You might want to post this over on the IOA/US boards...heck, it might even get moved over regardless.

So, if you were to close your eyes, you would get very little sensation of dropping?

Closing your eyes would help tremendously.

Revenge of the Mummy is on a roller coaster track. There will be a launch and a fifty foot real drop. It is definitely a coaster. It is not 3D but has real animatronics and special effects.

Closing your eyes would completely eliminate any felling of falling because it doesn't move it just points downward about a foot. The entire sensation is created on screen. You do not have the real gravitational pull or weightless feeling cause by actual drops so it is easily doable.

I have a problem with the drop rides and this one just doesn't have that same feel. It is, however, a great ride.

dang it...guess I won't get to go on this.

I HATE rollercoasters. DH got me on rockin' roller coaster once...I cried the whole time.

I was 22 at the time! heheh

I am absolutely terrified of heights, just thinking about it makes my palms sweat. However, I absolutely loved Spiderman. Yes, it does appear that you are falling, but your mind reasons that you are not, at least that's what happened with me. I had no problem with it, and easily rode it a dozen times. It is the best attraction I've ever been on, she simply has to go on it.

My wife has the exact same problem as yours and she thought the ride was great!
We actually rode it twice and she had no problems.
It is a great ride.

This ride is definately cutting edge ! You never leave the ground , but you'll think that you're falling. The effects are very realistic...very anxious to see the new Mummy ride too.
