Here's a blip from one of our local television channels that was on last night:

Spider Bite Sends Florida Man to the Hospital

(Schenectady - WRGB) — A potentially dangerous health risk in Schenectady had much of the fire department spending its afternoon spraying for spiders. Police tell Channel 6 News a truck driver was bitten by a brown recluse spider while he was on his way to Schenectady. The driver, who is not from this area, took himself to St. Clare's Hospital. Police do not know his exact condition but they say he is in bad shape. As a precaution, emergency crews isolated the truck. The fire department is not sure if there are other spiders in the area, and that's why they are spraying the disinfectant.

My DD (now 31 yrs. old) has developed a horrible, horrible fear of spiders just within the past year and none of us can figure out why.. She was never afraid of them before, but now she goes nuts if she even THINKS there's a spider around..

I'm not crazy about them myself, but I have no where near the fear that some folks do..

Now if you'd like to talk about BEES and SNAKES.....:scared:

You keep those darned spiders over there in Schenectady please. I have enough problem with the non-poisonous ones.

:scared1: I cant believe there is a spider thread!!! I hate them!

Not only do I find them when i'm awake I've actually woken up in the middle of the night, flipped on the light and there it is. The nasty little critter is crawling along the ceiling! ::yes:: Somehow, I actually know they are there when I'm asleep. DH thinks I'm nuts.

Sometimes I wake him up INSISTING there's a spider only to find out I was dreaming, but the dreams seem so real!

YUCK! I say we have a spider stomping party and get rid of them all!!!!

A spider stomping party sounds good, but first we need to find people brave enough to stomp them for us.:D

I don't care if they're brave as long as they have really big feet

EEEwwww!!!:crazy2:

Who's gonna scrape them off their shoes?

I too am deathly afraid of spiders. I call my cat. He loves to eat them. Once when I moved in a new apartment I woke up to find a huge web for my kitchen chair to a bookshelf and the darn spidermust of had babies because there were hundreds of these tiny spiders up and down the web. I called in work sick and I vacumed them up and had husband throw away bag.It was horrible I was so scared I just about pee'd my pants.

I CAN'T EVEN READ THIS THREAD I HATE SPIDERS SO MUCH! I'M JUST REPLYING TO LET YOU KNOW THAT I HAVE A SPIDER PHOBIA.

Just thinking about them (or reading about them) gives me the major HEEBIE-JEEBIES!!!

Oh, y'all would be SO SO proud of me.

I was on my computer last night, and there was a wee little beastie on the wall behind the computer desk.

I did not scream, cry, or wake up DH. I very calmly shut off the computer, and let it be.

Who knows where it is now, but I semi-faced my fear. ;)

Spiders are the one thing that will make me scream like a little girl being chased by her brother with a water gun.

A couple of weeks ago on the way to work, one dropped down from my sun visor right in front of me. It is a good thing there was no one around me or I would have taken out half of the freeway :)

The spider in the car thing reminds me of something.

Years ago, as I was driving, a spider came running across my dashboard. I freaked! I pulled over to try and kill it, when I noticed a couple boys waiting for a school bus. I told them if they would come and kill the spider, I'd give them 2 bucks. I don't think they worried much that I would abduct them, as they saw me freaking out.

The one came over, smushed the spider with his bare hand and collected his 2 bucks. He probably never forgot that incident either, as ironically, it was his lucky day as much as it was my UNlucky day.;)

Grinningghost-

I'm so glad there were some big brave boys who could rescue you. They probably have big feet too. Maybe we could hire them?

I feel your pain! It doesn't matter how small a spider is, they freak me out!!!

That is just gross curlyjbs......... :crazy2:

Seeing them is one thing........but the thought of crunching them or squishing them really creeps me out. That's why the bigger they are to me, the harder it is for me to kill them.
I just sit at watch them and will them to be paralyzed on the wall. If they move I'm in trouble.

Also the story of the cat eating them........eeewwwww - little spider pieces floating around in the poor cat's stomach.....

That's why I couldn't watch the Survivor episode where they had to eat the "deep fried" spiders.........I'd be in therapy for years. I would end up looking like Jeff Goldberg (sp?) in The Fly........it would be "The Spider".

OK - ENOUGH........I've just grossed myself out.

"Along came a spider, and sat down beside her and frightened Yzma away"

I'd much rather have spider pieces floating around in my cats stomach then a whole spider crawling under my couch. Besides, I think my cat likes them.

This is Meeko. He can join the posse

The hairs on the back of my neck are sticking up!

UGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG, that is the WORST part!!! As if the fact that they have WAY too many legs and are generally hairy wasn't enough. I do NOT want to hear crunching of any kind!
