With my son approaching teenagehood:eek: and Harry Potter coming to Universal:wizard: , I guess we will have to add that to our trip in a few years. I've been reading descriptions of Spider Man that makes it sound really cool, but still not sure what it is. We have a ride at our VA Busch Gardens called Grey Kastle, that sounds like it might be similar...just curious:goodvibes . Can anyone give a description, or has anyone been to Grey Kastle as well and is it comparable?

Curse of DarkKastle is a copy of Spider-Man's ride system. They work the same way.

Totally disagree. Darkastle, while it does employ the same technology that Spiderman uses, it is completely different. There are characters you somewhat care about on Spiderman, and the scenes are a lot more fluid. They follow you, so that when you go from one side to the next, the lines stay smooth. Darkastle, if you move to one side or the other, the lines blur. It makes for a more interesting and immersive ride on spiderman....though I do like the fact that because Darkastle doesnt have as elaborate set pieces as Spiderman, they can literally flip a switch and its different....:3dglasses

The first time I rope Spiderman the thing I loved the most was I didn't know what was real and what was on the screen.

Thanks for the answers. I will definately try it when we go there. I enjoyed Darkastle, altho on the last ride I was looking around more trying to see how it was set up.

what exactly id the ride? ive ridden neither? is it like star tours? i threw up after that one.

No Dana, its most of a smooth ride. It's hard to describe. Yes it's a simulator but it's so muc more than that. First of all you do move around the set, moving into different rooms with different screens. Some of the sets like buildings are real, other parts are on the screen. It doesn't feel like a simulator- it feels real. It's so hard to explain. The only advice I could give you is to go on it- you won't regret it!! It's fantastic!

thanks for the reply:thumbsup2 i was going to cross that one off the list becuz i didnt know what it was..ill give it a try then..thanks:woohoo:

it is a moving car along a track, but the car moves in all directions to "simulate" movement. There are still sets, there are movies screens. (like mentioned, it's hard to differeniate between the two). i like it much better than star tours @ mgm...as it's also in 3D! do NOT cross it off your list....you will love it!

I have never heard of anyone who didn't like Spiderman :goodvibes

yeah, the only way to explain it from a Disney perspective is actually to combine something similar to the Dinosaur ride at AK with 3D projections and actual city streets, plus more movement of the ride vehicles (they spin)

The combination of all of these makes it truly a one of a kind attraction, which can't be compared to much of anything (Except DarKastle which I havent been on)

There ya go :thumbsup2 .... I have trouble with that, since I've never been to AK!

:rotfl2: didn't think so...that's why never been!

We went for our first time this year, and we were done with everything that we wanted to do by 10:30, and check-in at RPR was at 4!

The only things that we did at Ak were:
Kilimanjaro Safari(that was actually pretty cool i thought)
Khali Rapids(got somewhat soaked on it)
Dinosaur(didn't think it was that good)
It's tough to be a BUG(Really good i thought)
Expedition Everest( That was awesome we did that twice)

Our check in at RPR was suppose to be at 4, but we got there at 11:30, and our room was ready!  :cool1: :cool1: . Never checked-in that early before:thumbsup2

If this was meant as a reply to my post, you didn't disagree with me. In fact, you couldn't. It is a lift of Spider-Man's ride system. Whether or not you care about the characters is a different topic.

I see that the height listing is for 40" and up, but it is recommended for Ultimate Adventurers, Adults, Teens & Pre-Teens. I have a just turned 5 year old who loves spiderman, and is well over the 40" minimum, but I wondered if the ride has scarey scenes that are not good for young kids? I'm thinking he would love it, but I just wanted some opinions.

Thanks!
Becky

It depends on your 5 y/o.

My DS5 is in a big Spiderman phase and so we rode it on our trip in May. He is an "as long as he's prepared for what's coming, he's fine" kinda kid. I have been on Spiderman several times prior to having kids, so I was able to tell him the basic storyline ahead of time. "Bad guys will show up in each room/scene and try to stop us, but Spiderman will ALWAYS save us." That was his mantra. Some of the bad guy attacks could be pretty intense for little ones, depending on how sensitive they are. Some kids eat up the adventure, some would be frightened by it. You know your kid better than anyone else, so that is a tough call for anybody else to make.

There is a complete ridethrough of Spiderman on YouTube:

Maybe that will help you decide what's right for you and yours. :goodvibes

There is so much more to Universal than just Spiderman. Holding out to 2009 for Harry Potter seems like a lot of time to miss out on the best park in the world. There are at least 4 or 5 other rides and attractions that are Spiderman level at U IMO. True Spidey is probably at the top of the list, but my personal favorite is Jurassic Park. But there is also so much more to it than just the rides. Your missing out on a lot.

Thanks for such a quick reply! That is exactly what I was wondering. I think we'll try it. He'll probably handle it better than me!!

Thanks again,
Becky

None of us are big on intense thrill rides:scared1: . The first time we went was last March, it was his first time and it was all about Disney. I think he will be able to enjoy Universal when he is older, and can get all he can out of it. Right now, altho 11, he's still does not want to try roller coasters, and I could not even get him on Splash Mountain at all. I think he will probably grow out of this in a few years, and then we can go and get our moneys worth.
Hoping to visit soon, but will probably be with MIL, so it may be an all-Disney trip again. Branch out after that...
