Are the secret porthole rooms the same since the Magic was re-imagined? I booked room 5022 for our May cruise.

Has anyone staying in this room on re-imagined Magic? Good, bad, noisy?

Thanks!

I don't think that the re-imagining had any effect on the obstructed portholes on Deck 5. The obstructions are inflatable rafts that I'm sure are required.

Just Curious...

Had you checked the prices on the unobstructed Deck 2 oceanviews? They are often much cheaper. I saved $400 by going with one of those on my Alaska cruise and was very happy that I did. The obstructions would have been a real bummer in Alaska and then to have overpaid for them. I'll agree that it is nice to be near the kids clubs if you have children, but it just wasn't worth $400 to me.

There used to be a website that listed, for the Magic and Wonder, which rooms on Decks 1 and 2 were noisy. Unfortunately, the deck plans do not show what is below Deck 1 or most of Deck 2. Does that list still exist? The Dream and Fantasy also need such a list for Deck 2.

I found the room that I was in to be pretty quiet. One morning there was some commotion outside the ship that woke the kids up. A boat came up to the side of the ship and they let on a guest captain to pilot the ship through the Tracy Arm. That's all the noise we got. Of course we were Starboard and Aft so we didn't have any of the sound from the nightclubs or theaters. I watch carefully for cabin placement. As for engine sounds, they only kick up when they are docking. (switching from forward to reverse and back again)

this is our first cruise and it is only a 3 night.

Dsnydaddy- no, i haven't looked into the lower decks for a few reasons:
1) we have 2 boys that will spend a lot of time in the kids clubs so I thought it would be good to be near them. 2) I am afraid I will be sea sick so I thought the port hole (even obstructed) might help. 3) I wasn't sure about being on the lower decks- i have it in my head that it would feel like a dungeon (I know that sounds ridiculous!).

I am all about saving some money though so maybe I should reconsider? Thanks for the suggestion.

I've been on Deck 5 (sideways inside stateroom which I loved so much I booked it for the 14 day PC cruise, don't recommened for families thought) and you are right it is convenient for the kids clubs. It's also nice that you don't have to travel as far to anything (i.e. up or down a few decks for everything you might need to go to whereas Deck 2 is a long climb up stairs if the elevators are busy which is why I like far forward or far aft because the elevators are not as busy.)

Porthole will help with having a horizon to view. but I've been told (I don't experience motion sickness so I have no point of reference) that due to the pivoting action of the ship on the water, the farthest away you are from the centerline the more you will feel the movement. As a result you will feel more ship movement on upper decks than lower decks. Again, someone else may have a better frame of reference than I.

On those Obstructed portholes, some are VERY obstructed and one or two of them are hardly obstructed. You can do a google search to see which rooms are heavily obstructed or not. You'll actually feel less "imprisoned" in a dungeon with a wider view. I felt that the Deck 2 rooms were very open feeling. But it is a matter of personal preference.

The lower decks do not look like a dungeon. They look the same as any other deck.

We just got off the magic Monday in rooms 5639 and 5642. No issues with notices at all and great location. We loved it and booked similar locations for dec.
