I recently managed to snag (SPH's) 5520 & 5522 for our upcoming cruise the end of July. :cool1:

Obviously, as a family of 4x, ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo pirate: pirate: I had hoped to get the combination of either 5022 / 5024 or 5522 / 5524, as these rooms have the connecting door between them. (We have managed to get this combination our last several cruises, and for us, this is the only way to go!) :thumbsup2

Has anyone ever heard of, or managed to swap rooms so they could get connecting rooms, as opposed to adjoining ones? :confused3

I would quite happily swap our 5520, for whoever is currently booked in 5524. (I would even make it worth their while; buy them a bottle of wine or something) 5520 is a much better room from the standpoint that it has the least obstructed view, and that you wouldn't have to deal with the connecting issue?

Has anyone ever managed to do a swap of this sort? How would you go about it?

You would need to approach the person in that room when you/they board. Perhaps leave a note for them if they are not in the room yet. I would suggest that you do not put anything in the room you are offering to make it easier if they are willing to switch. Personally I would not have a problem switching rooms if we were in a connecting one with noise issues and it is so close to the original one. Others have posted about doing this with success on the ship.

What does SPH mean?

Nevermind: Secret Porthole room. Google is wonderful.

Maybe you can post a note on your cruise meet forum. If you are lucky they may be DISers and you can work something out.:goodvibes

Good Luck!:thumbsup2

I'll certainly try this as a last resort. :thumbsup2 I was wondering if I contacted DCL, whether or not they would contact whoever is booked in the room to see if they would swap? I'm guessing, probably not!

I would certainly rather try to sort this prior to cruise time.

I did post to our cruise meet thread. It's currently pretty quiet there, and I've not had a response. :confused3
Thx.

My family was approached on one of our first cruises about swapping rooms with the family in the connecting room. They had the rooms on either side of us. They handled making the change with DCL after we agreed to do so. They caught us right before we started unpacking so it was really no problem. The next day I received a gift card to the spa.

If you contact the family right after being allowed into your room, there should be no problem.

I have heard that DCL will not contact another party to try and swap rooms.
Keep checking the website to see if the connecting cabin opens up.
Good luck.

I was going to post the same thing. Others who have tried to get DCL to help with this were told that DCL will not contact guests to do this so you have to wait until you are on the ship.

We're looking at booking 5524 for an upcoming cruise. Haven't stayed in any of the SPH rooms. How obstructed is the porthole?

That's what I kind of figured. So, my best bet, is to hope it's a fellow disboarder who gets this room, and they sign up to our cruise thread.
Otherwise, I will drop a note to whoever has this room when we board, and will hope for the best. :thumbsup2

5524 is the most obstructed of the porthole rooms, and also connects with 5522, so you are likley to hear more noise from the adjoining room.

5020 & 5520 are the least obtstructed of the SPH's and should be your 1st choice if you only require 1x room for your family. :thumbsup2

We would prefer a non-joining room, however all the other SPH are booked. So comparing it to booking a CAT8 (5510 which we've stayed in before) a little further down the hall, we're considering the SPH room.

Has anyone had issues with workers being outside the windows with SPH cabins? Another cruiser mentioned about workers and the window and I was just wondering about other people's experiences.

You can actually have workers outside of any porthole or verandah while in port. They usually will put a note in your stateroom the night before advising you of this so that you will be aware and can close the curtains for privacy.

We had a worker cleaning our window when we came back from Castaway Cay. The kids were fascinated watching him and waved and knocked on the window to get his attention. The poor guy tried so hard not to look into our window but finally gave a small wave and the kids were happy. We closed the curtains afterwards. Yes, I did take a picture!
And we were able to get 5520 again for our next cruise!!!!!

We have the same problem! We have 5022, 5020, and 5018. I would happily give 5018 to the person holding 5024-even though we'll have paid extra for 5018 as it is a "real" cat. 8-I love the convenience of connecting!!! It was weird to find 5024 booked but 5020 available. I know we are one of those "loud" families on the other side of the connecting door-so don't understand why they would pick a connecting cabin and the one with the most obstruction! Anyway, yes-they do have workers-only when you are in port and we were not given a note to remind us-so make sure you close the curtain before changing for dinner-my husband flashed the worker and our stateroom hostess on our last trip!:rotfl:
