SPG Am/Ex offer

Just to be clear 10K may get you 3 nights in the lowest tier of hotels, it will not get you 3 nights at what most people consider an average hotel. Since this is a WDW bulletin board I should point out that the Swan/Dolphin is 10,000 points per night.

10K is the standard signup bonus they have frequently run sign up bonuses in the past with as much as 30K bonus.

The only hotels in all of North America that are in Category 1 are:

North America
Four Points by Sheraton Chambersburg United States Pennsylvania Chambersburg
Four Points by Sheraton Charlotte United States North Carolina Charlotte
Four Points by Sheraton Chicago Midway Airport United States Illinois Chicago
Four Points by Sheraton Kansas City Airport United States Missouri Kansas City
Four Points by Sheraton Lexington United States Kentucky Lexington
Four Points by Sheraton Manassas Battlefield United States Virginia Manassas
Four Points by Sheraton Pittsburgh Airport United States Pennsylvania Pittsburgh
Four Points by Sheraton Detroit Metro Airport United States Michigan Romulus
Four Points by Sheraton Saginaw United States Michigan Saginaw

Just wanted to tell you all about the SPG Am/Ex. They give you 10000 starpoints the 1st time you use the card. That many points is enough to get 3 free nights at one their hotels or you can do what I did and combine cash and points. We're getting our rooms at the Orlando Safari for $30 a night.:cool1:

We stayed at the Sheraton Safari a few years ago and really liked it. We used points to upgrade to one of the suites.

You can get 3 nights at the Sheraton Safari. Not sure where you got the idea singleinthecity that free nights are only available in "not average" hotels. Sheraton safari is 3000 pts per night. Check www.spg.com for hotels and rates. It's true that Swan and Dolphin are 10000 points for a free night. No black out dates either.

I never said you couldn't redeem points for free nights, I just said that 10K isn't going to get you very far at a full service hotel. My family won't stay at anything below a Category 4 (maybe a Category 3 if we need something at/near an airport) which is the Disney Swan/Dolphin. Very few properties fall in the cheap 1/2 category and are mostly very sub par hotels in need of repair or are in dire need of an upgrade.

The Sheraton Safari is Category 2 property and requires 4,000 per night.

(even your link says 3-4000)

My family isn't the fancy-dancy caviar eating type. We're perfectly happy with a clean safe place to stay. I've been in many Sheratons round the world and I'm sure it will be fine. If you don't like the Safari you don't have to stay there. I posted this in the Budget section. Few people here are limiting themselves to category 5 hotels.
