Spending Money

I'm wondering how much money my family of three should allocate for our upcoming trip in August. We'll be on property at AKL from 8/20-8/25. We're not huge spenders but do like to pick up a few "Nice" souveniers. We're also planning on doing some character breakfasts which will be out of pocket. Would a thousand be enough? I initially had two thousand put to the side but unexpected things keep coming up and it has dwindled since :(. How much money would be sufficient and won't leave us feeling tight throughout the trip?

Depends on what you mean by "nice"? My budget for souveniers went up considerably when I discovered the Art Of Disney store.

Well we'll be on the basic dining plan which will cover most of our meals except for the four character breakfasts that I have planned. As far as nice souvies go; I'm referring to snowglobes and a few christmas items. They usually cost me fifty dollars or less. This is really weighing on my head. I can't believe we had to tap our disney funds. This is so bothersome! Hopefully I'll be able to make some of it up before the trip. Is a grand enough??

If it were me and I was trying to trim the budget, I've use my TS credits for the character breakfasts. I know personally I couldn't eat a breakfast buffet, then a lunch, then a TS meal. When we do a big breakfast, we also do a very late lunch, then use snack credits for dinners on days like that.

I agree with the PP. I'd use the TS credit for the Character Breakfasts - I think a thousand will be cutting it very close.

Why wouldn't you use the TS for the breakfasts? A large bfast will last you until afternoon, then do a CS and a snack. That's what we always do. Do you really want to do four character breakfasts in a 5 day trip? Maybe do a character dinner instead. I don't see why $1000 for 3 people would not be enough, unless you plan on buying a ton of stuff.

I am not sure if you are driving or flying, but if you are flying, you cannot bring any snowglobe on the plane. I had a fragile item shipped home and I think it cost $14.95 which isn't a lot, but for several items it would of added up. I don't know if you can accumulate these items and have your hotel ship them home at the end of the week for a cheaper fee.

Using the TS's for breakfast is a very good idea but my hubbie won't go for it. He wants to sit down each night and have a nice dinner. I tried selling that point already. So given my current situation are you all feeling a thousand woudn't be enough? Would two thousand have been more than enough? What's a good amount to allocate? We are flying and our tickets are already purchased. The trip is paid in full. It's just the issue with how much spending money is needed. Thanks for the info on the snowglobes. I wasn't aware of that. Is there any other type of souvie items the airlines aren't allowing in checked luggage?
