Depends on who you ask. Alright was never correct. People are only more recently saying it is okay

I had an 8th grade English teacher who detested the phrase 'a lot'. He did not even want us using it in papers because so many people mispelled it. Because of him it is also a pet peeve of mine along with there/their, and your/you're
