LOL don't check my spelling.... I only know a lot because I had a crazy english teacher who wrote the A on one side of the classroom and skipped across to the other side to write LOT....

forever etching the separation in my mind!!!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Thanks Mrs. Jackson!!!

Wow, you had an English teacher who could spell and use grammar appropriately? I had the football coach for English. :headache:

Cannot is ONE word - it is not can not!

Separate...has "a-rat" in the middle
I even had to correct my M.D. sister on this one!!!!

Reign, rein and rain. Cannon and canon. Write, rite and right. I'm not too judgmental about homonyms - I have trouble with some of them, myself. But I have to admit, "alot" does bother me.

I had an 8th grade English teacher who detested the phrase 'a lot'. He did not even want us using it in papers because so many people mispelled it. Because of him it is also a pet peeve of mine along with there/their, and your/you're

If you don't mind - I'm going to skip the "class" on the DIS today..

Thank you! :rotfl:

You ask people for ADVICE not Advise. That drives me absolutely bonkers to see a thread title asking for Advise.

From Merriam-Webster:

alright
One entry found.

Main Entry: al·right
Pronunciation: \(ˌ)ȯl-ˈrīt, ˈȯl-ˌ\
Function: adverb or adjective
Date: 1887
: all right
usage The one-word spelling alright appeared some 75 years after all right itself had reappeared from a 400-year-long absence. Since the early 20th century some critics have insisted alright is wrong, but it has its defenders and its users. It is less frequent than all right but remains in common use especially in journalistic and business publications. It is quite common in fictional dialogue, and is used occasionally in other writing <the first two years of medical school were alright — Gertrude Stein>.
