Speeding ticket

I know its been awhile but, I have been calling the court house about my speeding ticket. They kept telling me that it had not been turned in.:confused3 I was due in court on the 16th, I did not go. I called instead and the ticket had not been turned in. The lady I had been talking to was REALLY NICE. She told me the OFFICER had till 5p.m. to turn it in. He did not.:rotfl2: I call today 8a.m., she calls me back at 11a.m. and tells me the officer turned the ticket in on the 19th 3 days late.:lmao: So she said I have good news, the ticket had been thrown out because it was turned in late. I don't to have to pay a dime.:thumbsup2 But this experience has opened my eyes to SPEED LIMIT SIGNS. Drive Safe. Oh, and I'll be the one doing the speed limit as you pass me up.;) You can call me LUCKY...:woohoo:

The fine you will get is only the first part thats going to cost you.
After your insurance company finds out you may be faced with much higher monthly premiums. Thats why people usually try to get them reduced.

ps: get a radar detector ;)

Won't do you any good if they use VASCAR.

Thats right there is a reason for speed limits... they are revenue generators.

The state has fought with some communities trying to get them to raise the speed limits on certain roads because the state says they are rated for a higher speed but the communties refuse...why?....cause tickets generate great deal of revenue. For some bedroom communities this a main source of revenue.

There are roads here in Ohio that are rated for 55mph, in Michigan the same type of road would be 65mph. In Michigan on some roads its 70mph. Why discrepency? Does it make sense that when I hit the border that I can either speed up or that I have to slow down even the road is exactly the same?

I have been told in Illinois the first thing to do is ask the court for a copy of the traffic study establishing speed limits. I guess that is a requirement. Supposedly if a study show the limit should be 50 and it is posted below that you can beat the ticket if you are under 50.

I respectfully disagree that speeding tickets are given solely for revenue enhancement. Local jurisdictions receive very, very little money from speeding tickets. My son, who has just finished his second year on the street, will tell you that he has handled murders, gunshots to the face, suicides and stabbings, but nothing compares to what he has seen happen to the human body in a car crash. The higher the speed, the worse the injuries and the mess.

Don't want a ticket? Don't speed. The life you save may be your own:thumbsup2

In michigan the money goes to the library fund. So I've been told.

I remember reading a story where a small town in Missouri got 80% of its revenue from traffic tickets using a speed trap. The law was changed allowing them to get something like only 25%. The town had to unincorporate. They nailed a state senator who went out of his way to change the law,

Well congrats!

They have a show on TrueTV that is called "Speeders" which shows people getting pulled over for speeding and then they have "Speeders Fight Back" where the people who were on the show "Speeders" go to court. There were several times where the judge let the people off because they had a good clean driving record, but also there were a few times I saw that the officer had to show proof that his radar detector was calibrated properly and if the paperwork was not up to date then the case was dismissed.

I'm the same way and I refuse to speed (especially anywhere here in Orlando and even more so around the tourist attractions). I also stop completely at every stop sign...I'd rather spend my $$ at Disney than on tickets and court costs.

I also got pulled over in that town for "touching the fog line." which is not illegal, fyi. but the cop slammed into the back of my car and I didn't get a ticket. go figure. :confused3
What does "touching the fog line" mean?

Thanks for the reminder.......I need to go online and see how much mine is going to cost me.........received Jan. 27th.

61 mph in a 45.....so that equals a point.

The bad part is I wasn't even touching the gas. There is a very long steep hill on the HWY I have to travel daily....well, Tuesday it was covered in black ice and people were sliding all over the place. Wednesday it was still below freezing and the roads still had icy spots on them. (Water drains across this area really bad) It's dark so when I start down this hill I'm just coasting....I don't want to ride my brakes for fear of sliding off. Well guess what......when you reach the area where it levels out and is dry, you can see at the bottom of the hill the local police doing radar.

I stop at every stop sign, and every red light too. I'll bet if I had gone to court it would have been thrown out that day. But I'm Happy

My one and only traffic ticket was for doing the regular speed limit when there were construction signs reducing the speed. Of course this was the day after Thanksgiving and there was no construction going on, but the motorcycle cops were reeling in car after car. Don't remember the amount, but I do remember going to traffic school and seeing the Goofy cartoon featuring Mr Walker and Mr Wheeler. A classic. :rotfl:

I've never gotten a ticket and I've only been pulled over once, and that was in the middle of the night while we were moving across the county and apparently becaise I wasn't a mile behind my DH in the moving truck, I was too close. Lol no ticket or anyrhing, and no other vehicles aroun I do like that my gps shoes the speed limit of the road I'm on, especially if I can't find a posted speed limit sign. It's very helpful.

What make and model do you have? I have been trying to find something like that. The only concern I would have is if the data was up to date.

Its a garmin nuvi 755T, I believe. It has live traffic, the speed limit of the road you are traveling on (95% of the time its correct), it lets you know when there will be a delay ahead and will give you an alternate route to avoid traffic. We love it.

Things like this are exactly what the "low" gears are for on a car; up here in Maine I have a hilly travel to and from work, and when it's icy out I use the low gears on my vehicle to slow me down when descending. Not to mention I know when the hills are coming up, so I'm not usually very near the speed limit when I reach the top, anyway. :flower3:
