I know Tyler mentioned this once before but I thought I give folks heads up that the police are apparently starting a new speedig ticket blitz at WDW and in the area. According to last night's news (WESH) they had a speed trap on World Drive and gave out 575 tickets.

So pleas be careful, watch your speed and buckle up. :)

they were also out on 192 at the wourld drive overpass. there was probly 30 police officers their. i think the speed limit uis 35 or 40mph

yeah..thats probably where they were then - I was just getting home from work when I heard it on the news so I didn't quite get the whole story. But it would really stink to get a speeding ticket on vacation so I figured I'd give folks a heads up. :) The news report sounded like this is going to be an ongoing operation.

Yup, the Osceola County sheriff's set up the speed zone on 192 yesterday and according to the radio wrote a record number of tickets for one day. They do this periodically, 'specially when school starts to try and get people to slow down. I expect this to be the first of many. I would also be careful on the Osceola Parkway since that is another road they like to set up on. We made national news months ago since they dressed the officers up like homeless men with a sign that said "speed checked by radar, Osceola Sheriff's Department" or something along those lines.

While it's never fun to get a ticket on vacation, I can't really say that this is a bad thing. We rented a car for our quickie trip last weekend, and I can't tell you how many times I had people glued to my bumper. I'm definitely not a putzer...I go the speed limit or maybe a bit over, but people were constantly crawling up my tail. It reminded me why I prefer towncars! Maybe if word gets out that the speed traps are around, they'll cool their jets a little.

There was an OC Sheriff sitting on the roadway coming into the terminal from the south entrance (Sand Lake Road?) Sunday afternoon with a radar gun poised and ready.

Thank you for posting this reminder! Wow... 575 tickets... that's VERY scary, but not in the least bit suprising. *sigh* People have been MANIACS on the road lately.

While on the AK cast shuttle the other day, a driver and myself were talking about how CM's excessivly speed, and how that was probably the cause of a major accident. My coworker commented that CM's need to slow down... and if they're running late, they should leave earlier next time. The AK CM sitting next to us made a scowl at my coworker, as if she was wrong saying that people need to slow down.

One can only hope! I am like you, but I cannot count the number of times I've seen people race up to my bumper and I sit there hoping they slow down or change lanes before they rear-end my rental. So far, knock on wood, no accidents. But I feel that I've just been lucky.

I don't want to wish a speeding ticket on anyone, especially on vacation, but if this is what is necessary to get some lead-foots to lay off the gas pedal... more power to the police/sheriff's units! Go get 'em!

I drive on the ocesola parkway from the wide wourld of sports to the animal kingdom twice a day and their are cast members that fly by me everyday, but the worst is the dynamic busses becuase they fly by you and don't have any working taillights to tell you there going to cut you off and slam on there brakes for the yellow light that you can't see now becuase you have a huge bus in front of you. but i guess i should look at it from the positive side they stoped for the light rather than blow through the red light, right?

DOT was on property today, and busted one of the worst shuttle operators out there (YAAAAY!!!!!). I'm hoping they nabbed a few other operators including Dynamic and thier non-functional brake light buses.

i doubt they nabed one today becuase they were still out at 10:45 when i drove down the ocesola parkway. one question for you tyler what is that facilty on sherbeth road that all the dynamic busses go into, there is a bunch of school buses there, and a bunch of disney transport busses there?

Dynamic has a bunch of buses, so even if they nab one, others will still be out on the road. As for what they're turning into, that's the DAK Cast Service area (costuming, etc). The school buses are Contruction Worker shuttles. Old school buses are cheap to buy, and cheap to run. As for the Disney buses, that's where our newly retired buses go. When a 23 year old bus develops a problem that would require substantial work (ie: $25,000 worth), they'll retire it. No sense dumping that much money into something that is going to be retired soon anyways. Might as well just retire it now. No word on whether those buses will be resurrected.

Just to add to the total, yesterday (Tuesday) they wrote 465 more tickets on another section of 192. And they also warned on the news tonight that the staties are working areas of Osceola Parkway. As I mentioned, they want people to slow down especially with school back in session. The Osceola County will be doing the speed zones for the remainder of the week.
