Spectrum Moms Take on The World! Our Last Day...Multiple Posts!

Oh, Been There, Done That!

Hakuna Matata and welcome back!

Kathy

I was so bummed after our last trip.....life got so crazy (still is) but Gabriel turns 10 in May and I am planning a trip come Heck or High Water! We are staying at the Wilderness Lodge again if it kills me AND we just got a Pin for 35% off there:goodvibes

Hope all the Spectrum Moms and Kiddos are doing well. Gabriel is actually doing a bit better in school this year as far as behavior:woohoo:

Soooo, since I am devising a plan....I should be out here lurking and trying to freshen up my Disney Planning.

Happy Halloween to all too :goodvibes

I'll share pic's of my 4 later, but we'll have a yo-yo, a Mouseketer, a yodeling cow-girl and a Queen :thumbsup2

here is that picture I said I would share:

In other news (or rumors, if you will) there is speculation on DVCNews.com that there will be a new DVC property built at the site of the old River Country. Take a look:

An overhead view of the project area shows structures with a nearly identical footprint to the typical Disney Vacation Club Two Bedroom Villa. Highlighted here are what appear to be 40 individual Two Bedroom units, with the leftmost units actually extending beyond the existing shorline and out over the water. With a structure built-up vertically 4 or 5 stories, such an expansion wing could be home to as many as 200 DVC villas.

I'll have to see if we can see that from up top BLT we should have a good view.... hmm interesting

:rolleyes1

Subbing......been awol forever :sad2:

Hi and :welcome: back to the boards Carol....sounds like you are well as is Gabriel...so glad you found us :goodvibes

Despite having to skip TSM, you ladies have a lot packed into the hours you will be at DHS! Sounds like a wonderful day.

Love all the Halloween pictures of the kids! :goodvibes

Kathy, I have been loosely following the thread about the Villas over at Ft. Wilderness, it sure is an interesting development! We will see what becomes of it....I think I would LOVE Villas over there, to escape into nature for a week. :cloud9:

Hey, Brook!

More is better when it comes to DVC Resorts!!!

I love having lots of choices...

Kathy

Last week I ended up reading the WHOLE thread about the DVC/Fort thing. It was like reading a true crime novel! :rotfl2:

I heartily agree, Amy!

It's a bit difficult to update as a group since every decision has to pass committee first! ;)

In other news (or rumors, if you will) there is speculation on DVCNews.com that there will be a new DVC property built at the site of the old River Country. Take a look:

One of the more popular Disney Vacation Club rumors of late is that the site of the old River Country waterpark may be redeveloped to support DVC villas. Recent permit applications only add fuel to the fire.

Disney recently applied for a permit from the South Florida Water Management District to make changes to the River Country / Fort Wilderness region of Walt Disney World. The focus of those changes is a relocation of stables and support services in the Tri Circle D Ranch area. However, one particular image may be of interest to DVC followers.

File that under Things That Make You Go Hmmmm!

Kathy

Huh, I had not heard anything about this! Very interesting. Personally I would prefer if they made DVC villas at the Polynesian, but maybe that is just me. ;)

More info on the new DVC resort! Theme is the California Coast!

Kathy

Hmmm, very interesting. I remember reading a while back rumors about that area being developed for DVC.

I think a lot of people would love a Poly DVC unfortunately they are somewhat landlocked and I wonder about taxing the monorail with that many more guests.

WDW/DVC rumors are plentiful, always interesting to see what pans out in the end.......popcorn::

While we discuss where we want to go with this pre-trip report, I thought I'd pose a question for those of you who have been to Disney during the winter.

How's the weather? :confused3

I have no idea what to expect... I've only visited in the spring (the earliest being early March - which I guess is still technically winter... the latest being late April/early May) or fall (late Sept or early October). I have visions of last winter in my head when everyone was wearing coats, hats & gloves. Is this the norm every year?

Along those lines, do you have any packing "must-haves" to suggest?

We have lived in Florida two years and I know last year was one of the coldest in over 30 years. In fact, I don't think we even went to WDW last January since it was so cold, I can't find any pics from that time. I looked at my pics from January, 4, 2009 and my son is in shorts and all the ladies were in capris. I know at night it can be chilly even during the warm days.

We have a trip planned the weekend before yours and I am hoping for warm weather, I've got parasailing booked. I think it may be a wait for the weather report type of thing. Just make sure you have at least a light jacket packed and then hopefully if it looks like it is going to turn really cold, throw in a heavier one.

Sorry I'm not more help.

Amy, our family went in January of 2005 and here's what I remember:

We would start off the morning wearing three layers: long-sleeved tee shirts, sweatshirts, and mid-weight jackets. Sometimes gloves. By late morning the jackets and gloves came off. Usually the sweatshirts came off in the early afternoon, after lunch. When the sun went down we would begin adding layers again!

Investing in a locker was always helpful since then we didn't have to lug our jackets around. :thumbsup2

Oh, darn! It may be too chilly to swim/wear a bathing suit! ;) How disappointing!

I will de-Lurk for a moment in the hopes of being at least mildly helpful. I have been twice in January, and was cold both times. Now, granted, one of those times was last year during the week that it sleeted, and let me say, Animal Kingdom in 28 degree rain is a whole new experience. Winter coats, hats, gloves, scarves, sweatshirt, and it still was too cold to be outside for more than one attraction at a time. But that was unusual, I realize.

My first WDW trip was in January of 2005 and it got cold then too. Of the 5 days of the trip, we got down to short-sleeves only one afternoon, and had on long pants every day. Generally a sweatshirt with a hat/gloves (easier to carry around in mid-afternoon than a jacket) was fine for most days, but early mornings and especially sitting still later in the evening for fireworks/parades (Fantasmic was especially chilly) could get cold.

On a February trip, it never got quite as cold, but long pants and long sleeves were still necessary, especially in the evenings. So, that being said, I would say that a warm hat and gloves are key items to bring. They are small to pack and to carry when not needed (whether in a bag or a pocket), they squish well, and it is surprising how warm a simple fleece hat can make you without needing a full layer of clothes. Plus, finding these items in WDW can be nearly impossible at times. Sweatshirts and blankets can be found last minute, but try to find a simple fleece/knit winter hat in the parks and good luck! (yes, I speak from experience)

Anyway, I am neither a spectrum mom nor a mom, but as an educator and graduate student, I strive to build my knowledge in as many helpful ways as possible and can't help but applaud your efforts (as fun as it may end up being for a little bonus vacation) in attempting to make things a little easier for another. Thank you.

And thank you, for both your advice and the de-lurk!! :goodvibes

Great post Amy and thanks to Tiresius and jmskinner plus Kathy for the thoughts I have only really been in the typical short weather times but I have to hope it will be warmer than a typical Chicago Jan

Thanks for your input!! I'm hoping it will be warm enough for capris and that we don't need hats & gloves. But I guess we'll plan for anything & wait until right before leaving to know for sure. :goodvibes

Don't worry - I won't be disappointed if I can't pack my bathing suit! I'm not sure it will be warm enough for swimming in late February... though I'm sure the kids will think it is!

Good suggestion about the locker! We definitely won't be pushing around any strollers in January and I'd hate to have to carry a coat around all day!

Clear as mud! :rotfl: So I guess we can expect anything from short sleeve weather, to layers including hats & gloves!! I'll have to be on the lookout for an appropriate pair of gloves & matching hat for our trip! :thumbsup2

I've learned so much & received so much support from the Spectrum Moms here on the DIS. I can't imagine us taking a trip together and not sharing it! :goodvibes Thanks for reading!

I agree - Anything should be warmer than NH in January!! :cold:
