SpectroMagic v. Main Street Electrical Parade

I think some of this comes down to your first Disney night time parade. I mean, if you saw Spectro first and identify it with your childhood and wonderful first trips to WDW- it seems natural that Spectro would be your fave. Spectro had a nice long run as well, so it became several generations' fave.

My first parade of this sort was MSEP, so naturally I was thrilled when I heard it was coming back. Sure, I miss some of the original floats, but it was a reminder of my childhood and my first Disney experiences when I saw it return in 2010. I was also happy it would be my children's first night time parade.

DH taped it for me when we were there in 2010 and while you can't see me tearing up, you can hear me gasp and sort of sigh as the lights go out on Main Street...and while it wasn't the exact original parade I saw as a kid- it was truly magical. and I'm sure it will be like that for countless Spectro fans should they bring Spectro back.

I also have to be honest- at some point I'd like them to bring Spectro back since I want my kids to see it and now having seen MSEP 3x since the change- I'd like a change. MSEP is still and will always be my fave, but Spectro is a great parade.

Every year that I have gone recently has been MSEP. I don't really like it. I keep hoping for Spectro to be put back in rotation.

My family and I will be going back to wdw May 16 for a week of magical fun! We went 4 years in a row, but did not go last year, due to the fact that I got married and had a lot of changes... Long story short, we are returning and I will be taking my husband and stepdaughter (7) who have never been... I loved the spectromagic parade. It gave me goosebumps and I would tear up every time. Although I am excited to see the MSEP, I am a little sad that spectro wont be happening... I noticed in your post you have a CD of the spectro music... Where can I find this?!

Heresy! MSEP all the way. Baroque Hoedown blows the Spectro music out of the water IMHO of course. Like others have said, it very often (not always) comes down to what you saw first or grew up with.

That said they are both great parades.

I thought Spectro was a cheap carney imitation of the MSEP. I'm so excited I'll see my beloved EP again in October.

I don't dislike the MSEP (I do think the music can be improved a bit). I still find it "magical". However, I do like SpectroMagic better. I grew up watching SpectroMagic and it holds a special place in my heart (I know its cheesy!)!

I like them both. I haven't seen MSEP since it came back, the last time I saw it was at California Adventure.

This was a tough call. Main Street Electric Parade reminds me of my first trip to Disney in 1990. The music brings me back every time I hear it. Spectromagic is a great show. I love the music. I don't know how you define it but it is very Disney.


I chose Spectro since we just got to see MSEP again last December and after finally seeing it again I had to say Sectro was better.

I actually love them both for different reasons. I love the unique Disney-ness of MSEP and love the campy music -- it's the ring-tone on my phone. (I also love the Electric Water Pageant with its campy music!)

But, I love Spectro, too - love the music and the floats and how they change from white to colors.

I've seen MSEP the last few trips and now kind of long for Spectro. My ideal would be that they'd rotate the 2 parades so that in a week's visit I'd get to see both.

I really don't remember Disney much from when I was younger. I don't really have a favorite. (yet?) I suggest to end the debate we have one more crazy 24 hour Disney day and let BOTH parades run the same night. Easier to decide which one is better Maybe an annual passholder only 'sleepover' the night before Fantasyland opens completely? I come up with crazy ideas... But um.. If anyone from Disney actually steals that from me.. well.. that's cool.. but hook me up with a Pyro tour.

I like them both! But I voted for Spectro.... I'm sure it's because it's the first WDW night parade we saw. So it will always be special.

It's funny, back when I started on Disboards, everyone said that Spectro just couldn't compare to MSEP. Everyone missed MSEP, pined away for it....wished so badly for it to return. Having only seen Spectro, and loving it, I could only imagine how magical, how perfect, what absolute nirvana this MSEP must be if everyone felt it was even better than Spectro!

So when MSEP came back to WDW, I was so excited to finally see it. And it was/is great! I find it energetic, bouncy, and fun!

Imagine my surprise when the boards were filled with pleas to bring back Spectro! Everyone likes Spectro better- they don't like MSEP at all!

So the answer is... everyone likes things the way they used to be.

I grew up with MSEP, i was happy to see it back again. The music brings me right back to when i was a little girl in WDW with my Grandparents <3

I love the Main Street Electrical Parade, I've watched it since I was a baby. When they took it away at Disneyland Paris for Fantillusion at that park, I was so sad. When I started going to back WDW here this year, and noticed it here, I was so excited, and happy. I love MSEP more than any other parade.

I don't guess I can really vote since I've never seen MSEP. After we're there in May, I'll be able to give a definitive answer. However, I'm not sure how anything could beat Spectro.

The goosebumps I feel when I hear the Spectro soundtrack can't be mimicked by anything else.

I don't think that anything Disney does is an abomination. However, Spectromagic is fancier and glitzier of course. I like them both though. We were bored after seeing Spectro countless times so it was nice to see the ELP for a while.

Spectromagic is much better as per my opinion too. Music in the MSEP kinda drives us nuts
