Is the route the same as the daytime parade? Is it similar to the daytime parade in that if I were to view in Frontierland instead of mainstreet I won't have to stake out a spot an hour ahead of time? Anyone have any viewing spot recommendations? We'd take less crowded over perfect view. Thanks.

It is the same "Route" as the day parade but going in the opposite direction. The day parade starts in Frontierland and ends on Main Street. Spectro Magic will begin on Main Street and end in Frontierland. You would still need to get there early to get a good spot but you are correct in that most people try and get on Main Street so the crowds fill in later in Liberty Square and Frontierland.

The last time I saw Spectromagic was last August, when we were all a bit drained from the day. My DH was more than ready to head back to the car, but I really really wanted to stay for the parade and for Wishes. I dragged my feet a bit as we headed down Main Street USA -- 'I'll just pop into this one store for a minute, honey' -- and by the time we were at the head of it, the parade was only ten minutes from starting. There was a long stretch of empty sidewalk in front of the barber shop, which is exactly beside the starting point.

I coaxed everyone into sitting down and staying for the parade, and it was magical for the whole group, DH included. It was especially nice not feeling so stuck in the crowd, and many characters came right up to us as they came out. Captain Hook flirted with me, but that's a story for another day.

By dawdling just a bit longer -- 'I'll just pop over there and get the pictures, honey' -- I managed the time so that we stayed for Wishes, too. Silly DH, thinking he could get me to cut back on even a little bit of Disney magic.

I don't know what time of year you're going but last time I went to Spectromagic it was July - the 4th of July to be exact. There were 2 parade times and the first one was PACKED! So packed that people like us who were entering the park later in the evening couldn't even go down main street and had to enter through a special entrance in Tomorrowland (I'm assuming this isn't a problem though any other time of year). Anyway, we stayed for the second parade and there were far less people. You really didn't need to lineup until about 10 minutes before the parade started. We chose to view it in Liberty Square right by the bridge to the Castle area. It was a pretty good spot. So definitely choose the second parade if you can. Also it's a good time to go on rides when the earlier parade is going on.

We usually get a spot about 2 hours before it starts on Main St. Grab a hot fudge sundae in a waffle bowl and sit and wait and people watch. If there is a later parade go for that, and hit your favorite rides while everyone else sits and waits.
