Spectators at Night Runs

I was a bit surprised to read that my family won't be able to see us running at the TOT 10 mile run unless they buy an after party ticket (at $44!). When I posted this on FB, I was told that all night races are like this. Can somebody explain to me if my family will be able to see us at all? My parents are coming and were going to bring the kids to the race and then back to the hotel after while husband and I go to the after party. Part of the fun for us is having them cheering us on during the race route but we can't spend that much for them just to watch us. I'm just hoping they can see us at some point?

It will all depend on the course. It would be a safety hazard to have people on the side lines cheering in the middle of the night along roads, even if they are closed, as they do for Marathon Weekend and the Princess.

If the course brings the runners anywhere near a lit area of open property, such as along the waterfront by the Boardwalk, Yacht & Beach Clubs as during the Wine and Dine, then Disney would be hard pressed to tell them to leave, especially if they are resort guests.

ToT 10 miler is running thru Wide World of Sports, I would think that's a good area where families can cheer.

Cheer spots for night races are hard. They will be able to cheer at WWoS and depending on the course, possibly somewhere just outside DHS (although if I remember correctly last time we came in/out of the studios at the back).

I'd agree with the safety thing, except that all the morning races start before the sun rises and there are thousands of fans cheering in the pitch black. The sun didn't com up until we were halfway between the MK and Epcot for the half!

I honestly don't know why runDisney doesn't allow spectators in the parks for night races. Guess it's too much of a headache to staff and regulate with regular paying guests trying to leave. Who knows! I think they should be allowed!

There are probably many more drivers out and about when the night time spectators would be finding their ways to their cheer spots.

And even though it would be a logistical headache, I agree, it would be nice to have more of a cheer presence from friends/family/strangers.
