Hiya gang, been thinking about buying into DVC at AKL probably around 220 points if I do. My wife talked to a co-worker today who advised us to buy in at minimum points, then every so often Disney will mail/e-mail special discounts to DVC owners to buy more points. Can anyone enlighten me as to the frequency of these deals and what they have been in the past? I am not sure if it's cheaper dollars per point offers, or things like free APs or heck, maybe double sprinkels on your 15th sundae if you buy 14 at full price next visit ;) Am excited about joining DVC, please throw some knowledge my way...

Thanks in advance to my fellow mouse-junkies...

i'd split up the original contract. maybe 160+60 or 100+60+60...whatever suits you - it gives you more options later if you decide you need fewer pts or want to split contracts among heirs...

you will get a better deal buying more pts at once, though, IMO...

Have you considered purchasing a resale contract instead of buying directly through Disney? You can save about $30-$40 a point if purchasing a resale contract. If you're planning to buy 220 points, that basically means a savings of about $8,000. Once you are a DVC member, you will qualify for all of the incentives and specials offered for all members. If you're not in a rush to complete your purchase and have the paperwork completed in a couple of days, a resale purchase will take about 6 weeks to complete and save you thousands of dollars. I have purchased directly through Disney and also resale through www.**********.com and I will always buy resale in the future.

We have had 1 offer (the christmas webcast) to purchase additional points since September. The offers for existing members have always been lower prices than those for new members.

Whatever you select, I woudl recommend the same as the previous poster to buy in smaller increments (you could still buy all at once from Disney just break up the contract). We didnt do this and I wish we had!

When it comes to AKV - depending on the size of the contract you are buying, the disney incentives (sometimes including current year points that can be banked) and low closing costs make it a really close price point to resale without the risk of ROFR. If you are considering purchasing anywhere else, resale should definitely be considered!!

AKV would only be about $4000 cheaper with a resale...but that's still not bad...

Usually the decent DVC add-on deals start at 100+ add-on points. I think new buyers get beter deals with 200+ new points vs an initial 160.
I cannot see how you would ever come up ahead by buying 160 then adding on another 60. (Or even if they still allow 100 then add-on 120)

Now if you were thinking 400+ total and buy 200 then add-on another 200, the delay might work in your favor. I will concur the best overall value would still be resale..

The only specials that we got were more points and another dues bill. :lmao:
