Hello again,

recently, I was speaking to a DVC owner and we were discussing the merits of owning. he mentioned that in addition to the resort ownership and discounts, he frequently gets offers for other deals. One was a discounted dsiney cruise sailing. he also said he receives things in the mail all the time as gifts, bags, key rings, etc. I havent see any posts on this and was wondering what current owners think? :confused3

I haven't received anything like that. The only things that I have received are the DVC discounts on AP's and shopping. I wish I had some key chains and bags. If he doesn't want them, he can send them my way!:thumbsup2

We've been members now for 12 years- the only gifts I've gotten have been the pins for the newly opened resorts, a beautiful anniversary giclee ( that all current members received), and then the gifts I got for adding on points. I've never received keychains, bags, or other random gifts.----Kathy

Most of the token gifts are made available to members at member events. Welcome Home Wednesdays and the Christmas Party are two such events.

Marketing gifts are paid for by DVD. Other gifts could be paid for by our dues. Nothing is for free.

what about offers?
He received an offer for members for a discounted Disney Cruise. We were on the cruise when we met and he told me what he paid for his family. It was a HUGE discount compared to what I paid. Do you receive random offers thruought the year?

Generally, those kinds of offers are incentives for doing an add-on. I don't remember getting any here's-a-big-discount-just-cause-you're-a-member offers, and I've been an member for almost 8 years.

We never taken a Disney cruise, but we have cruised with four other cruise lines and we always get special offers direct from the cruise line. I know there are come back offers with Disney on land and at sea. I remember seeing one on a thread the poster received a great discount on a 3 day cruise. Perhaps something similar is what your friend received.

We have not received any gifts, for the initial purchase nor our add on. We did get discounts on both purchases, but they were part of the standard discounts at the time we bought.

I just bought direct through Disney a few weeks ago-- I received a nice canvas bag, with zip closure and embroidered DVC logo with my documents in the mail. I thought this was a nice 'gift. I assumed everyone rec'd one when joining:confused3

Everyone gets the tote bag both when you make your initial purchase and with every add-on. I forgot about the gifts at Member events- we've gotten ballcaps, beach towels, totes, etc. on the Disney cruise Member presentations, then a keychain or ornament at the Merry Mixer's which I've loved getting. Those are things we actually use.---Kathy

I find this really hard to believe. What year was this cruise?

If anything, DVC members end up paying more (by using points, a whole other argument :thumbsup2)

I added on 120 points earlier this year... didn't even get a "thank you". I really enjoy the tote from our original purchase, though.

We received the tote (which makes a great beach bag) with our initial purchase (wore that one out;)) and with each add on, so I have a few:thumbsup2 When we first purchased we got a great print of the boardwalk (our home resort). We like it so much we had it framed and hung it in our home office) We also received the 15 year giclee. These things are what we received in the mail and with add on's. We did receive some member only pins in the mail, if I remember correctly when they opened BCV and WV:confused3
We also received hats at the Welcome Home Wednesday event at Atlantic Dance Club on the BW. We received nice DVC portfolio's and light up key chains at the Long Island event a few weeks ago.
Oh, and one year, maybe with the annual planner? We received a great notebook style calendar and on the cover it says "the Art of Disney Vacation Club". I love it so much I haven't dared mark it up!!

We won a golf umbrella with the DVC logo at one of the Wednesday member events and several pins over the years. I also have the Art of Disney calendar (I haven't used it yet, either!!!) and I also think it may have come with a yearly planner one time. I seem to remember having a mousepad once also.
And, we also have both prints of our two home resorts (VWL and SSR), which we received when we bought and added on, framed and hanging. However, I don't remember ever receiving a deal on a cruise.......I know there have been several member cruises, but, I don't think that's what the op meant, since he said he paid far less as a DVC member than the other family. Could it possibly have been one of the bounceback offers? I know we had one left in our room last year on one of our visits ......I didn't pay too much attention to it , but, I think it was an offer for Disney resorts, not Disney cruiseline.

I wonder if he was confusing his DVC membership with his Castaway club membership - I know he had taken a previous Disney Cruise. Perhaps he was sent offers through that? I know he was not bs-ing me as his wife was there and she also received the email, they both had called in to book the cruise.

We have gone on a couple of cruises that had a nice discount for DVC members. It was years ago and I do not remember the details. I have not seen anything like that in a long time though.

Which begs the answer to what year is the OP talking about for this discounted cruise via DVC?
