Ted called last night to book our engagement dinner at the California Grill! Yippeee!!!!!

They asked him before they even checked for availability if it was for a special occasion.....

Does this mean they do something special, or is it just for their records???

I hope it means we should have an easier time getting a seat by the window for fireworks! :D We really want it to be special, as we've waited a long time for this dinner!

while nothing is promised...if you are celebrating a special occassion it is noted in the system...and often times you'll get some extra magical service....might be just a CM congratsulating you...or something more..it's a nice thing that CM's try to do to add some extra magic to the guest's special occassion! :)

Keep in mind that the people taking your PS information aren't working at (or for) the California Grill--so it is possible for the information you gave NOT to make it to the restaurant.
What I'd do is give the CG a call directly shortly before your dinner night to be sure they know your occasion is special, and to re-emphasize that it is special.
I think you picked a great spot!!

Good Idea, Uncleromulus! We'll do that!

Thanks Goofy!

Agree with what Uncleromulus has said. We went to WDW for honeymoon in the past october and mentioned about the special occassion on every single PS we made. But only a few CM noticed it. Poly gave us a nice card in the room, and waiter at Jiko also gave us a card. That was it. So, we bought the bride and groom ear hats on the third day of our vacation to get people's attention. It worked!!!hahaha :p

I don't recall ever being asked about special occassions. Was just there in October

Holly, first congrats on your engagement. Now, CG you will have a tough time getting a seat by a window. Everybody, and I mean everybody request a seat by a window at Fireworks time. My only suggestion is to make your PS at least 1 1/2 hours prior to the fireworks time that evening. Meaning, the wait at CG is always long even with PS reservations. So, if you want to be seated by 9:00pm then expect to wait at least a 1/2 hour for your table, maybe longer. If you should get a window, fantastic, take your time and enjoy it. If not, enjoy the meal and go out on the observation deck and view the fireworks and then go back in and enjoy the rest of your meal.

This won't be our first time there. We have eaten there a couple times, including a nice window seat for Thanksgiving. We are not really looking for a window seat in particular. We really just like to food and atmosphere. Last time we were at WDW, we didn't eat there but we checked out the observation deck.

I was going to mention the engagement, just as an aside. I was taken off guard when they asked if it was a special occassion.

Fireworks that night are at 7. We have a 6 PS. I am not worried about where we sit. We will have a GREAT time anyway.
