Special Occasion Dining?

Just wondering -- in the dining reviews, I always see where people have received special perks at the restaurants b/c it's a special occasion. Do people generally mention that it's a special occasion when they make reservations? Or are they telling the host/hostess when they check in? Or mentioning to a server? If it was our daughter's b-day, I would have no problem saying something, but it seems a little weird or maybe pushy to mention that it's *my* birthday/anniversary/whatever. And i *know* my husband would have a fit if I called attention to *his* b-day!

I was making a reservation the other day for CG, and the CM was very nice and chatty, and I mentioned in the course of the conversation that this would be the night that the in-laws watched the kids for us so we could have our anniversary dinner. Do the CMs put notes in the reservations?

Sometimes I get asked if it's a special occassion, sometimes I don't- I think it depends on the CM you get. I have no problem saying it's my birthday if it is- I manage to worm it into the conversation somehow

When DBF and I go next we'll be celebrating our anniversary. I've booked us V&A where they specifically asked if it was a special occasion. I also booked CP where I said 'I'm booking this for our anniversary lunch'. The CM couldn't have been happier for me (or at least she sounded happy for me!) and said 'I'll note it down'. I'm yet to see what happens but, from past experience, they mark it somehow!

When I made ADR's for my honeymoon, I asked the CM taking the reservation to make a note on the ADR. I find that they are more than happy to do so. What does it mean to have a note on the ADR to say b-day/anniv/hm? Well, that is up to the CM at the restaurant. I've heard of decorated tables, prefered tables (by windows etc.), free drinks, and/or free desserts. I've also heard were people simply get a congratulations/happy birthday.

It really just depends on the day and the CMs at your restaurant.

When we celebrated our anniversary last year at WDW most of our "pixie dust" came from restaurant staff members when we were wearing our anniversary buttons. The only restaurant that I specifically mentioned that we were celebrating was Victoria and Albert's because they personalize the menu for all their guests.

Some places treated us to free drinks / desserts and some didn't do anything. The fun was in not knowing what might or might not happen!
