Are there any special Magic bands sold in the stores? Do they sell a variety of bands that you can buy in addition to the free bands they send? If so, anyone know what kind they are, where to get them, and about how much they cost? Or are special bands only out at limited times?

If you ever find something in the park and you didn't get a chance to buy it while you were there, you can always order it through email or making a phone call.. that's if they have it in stock. An Ariel MB came out and the castle MB was released in the park- of course the day after I left. i didn't call yet, but I'm planning on calling and ordering the one that's only offered in the parks so when I plan my next trip I'll be able to link and use it!

The special MB is available in most of the stores in Disney World. You will need a MB or a ticket to activate the MB. FYI, the battery in a MB is good for 2 years. I just found out with the article posted a few days ago. Stupid of me to think it could a long time investment.

The MagicBands are active when produced. A guest may purchase them in "link it later" mode because they do not have to be linked to tickets or MagicBands at the time of purchase.

They can easily be purchased to be given as gifts. They can be linked to an MDE account at a later date.

Yup, I had a friend pick up some of the Frozen Fever ones that came out for Flower and Garden when she was there two weeks ago and will be linking them soon.

the battery is for the long range scanner that does things like upload your ride photos. The RFID chip that works at touchpoints will work longer.
