I just booked a trip. This is a remembrance trip to remember my dad who just passed away a few weeks ago. We will be going in June. It will be my mom and I. It will be a special trip as I graduate from college in a year. What is a good sit down place that's not too expensive? Any suggestions? Thank you!

I agree with the afternoon tea at the GF. I'm actually taking my daughter there in December on our girls only trip. :goodvibes

I would also agree that the afternoon tea is a great idea, My wife and dd recently did this, I skipped it (seemed like a girl thing to me) They each had a Buckingham Palace offering. I thought it would be a quick time, but 2 and 1/2 hours later they were relaxed, and stuffed. They said everyone treated them so nice. They want to do it again, and still talk about the strawberries being the best they've ever had. It's a bit pricey, but there are different ways to order. you can find the menu here.http://allears.net/menu/menu_gft.htm

I agree - DD and I are doing tea in January while DH, DSIL take our 2 twin 4 yr. oldgrandbabies on their own adventure.

Megan:

I'm very sorry to hear about your loss. Please know that I know exactly how you feel. 11 years ago (a week prior to my master's graduation) my mom and I lost my father; 6 months later I took my mom to WDW. I can tell you it was a trip neither of us will ever forget. Simply being in a place where all the stress and grief was allowed to lift was the best present we could have ever gotten.

Back to the meal... I can't recommend the tea. Why? I don't like tea! :lmao:

Our favorite place for food is Liberty Tree, but that's because it's all "comfort" food to us. My BFF just had lunch at the Grand Floridian Cafe and recommends it, which is in a priceless locale.

My mom likes 50's Prime Time at the Studios, but that's because she was a child of the 50s. I love Le Cellier in Canada; although it is pricey, it's darker & quieter than the normal park chaos. I've heard good things about The Wave at the Contemporary, but it's a bit too modern for me.

Like other have recommended - use the menus at http://allears.net/menu/menus.htm to decide.

Remember, it's not about the food or the restaurant, but a time of healing for you and your mom.

You don't have to get tea. They'll bring you a Diet Coke if you really wanted that instead. Coffee, too. I wholeheartedly recommend the tea.

Why? You're not in the hustle and bustle of the theme park. You are in a casually elegant atmosphere and a chance to relax and enjoy yourselves. I wanted to take my mom to the tea last year, but our flights changed, so we didn't have time. I regret it.

I also lost my father, albeit a year ago. My heart is with everyone who lost their fathers, whether it was years ago or recently.

Hi Megan!

So sorry to hear about your father. I lost my mother almost 7 years ago and it's still hard.

Sounds like you are getting some great suggestions so far. I also like Le Cellier. It's a nice atomosphere and good food. The servers are some of the friendliest I've had at WDW. Reservations are sometimes hard to get at Le Cellier, so make sure that you book as soon as your time window opens for June.

Have a very magical vacation!

Hugs,
~Beth

For a quiet relaxing time I would go with the tea. I am NOT a tea drinker but we tried it for the first time 2 weeks ago.

We had the 2pm ADR, it was very quiet, nice, unbusy time. It was great, the place is small to begin with and it was about half full during our tea. I had the Mad Hatter tea as part of our Buckingham selection. It was very good and not like the old tea I grew up with at Grandma's!

Or I would do a late Chefs De France and ask to be seated by the front windows. Its fun to watch the world go by and have creme bruleee for dessert.
